Re: So you think you got an awesome Nassarius snail deal from eBay

I know these types of snails have gotten bad publicity over the past 6 months... but here is my experience with them

I bought a bunch of these guys from ebay and placed them in my refugium .

They've been there since last spring and they're still alive and kicking. I tried testing to see if they would eat any corals but so far they haven't even gone to "smell" them.

I wouldn't go as far as to introduce them to the display. But I'll probably keep them in the refugium for some cheap cleanup

bu they're known carrier of flukes, i have children in the house and i don't want them inadvertently getting sick just from me having them in the house.

i thought they were ok in my sump too but there are safer snails out there to risk anything with these guys

actually they are mostly around mid-US altantic states, the ones around canadian water are way too cold to survive long term in reef tank, I tried those (not narassius type).

Re: So you think you got an awesome Nassarius snail deal from eBay

Can somebody tell me waht this article was about, I can't seem to access the link and if it's dangerous for kids then it needs to vacate my premises!

    I don't have a tank yet

Tank = 10g (Trying to start a reef, going slow)
Refugium = Mini refugium located in the back of our tank in a AC 110/500. Includes LR, Sand, Cheato and filter floss.
Filter = AC 110/500 it used to be called 500 but now it's 110, biological methods ONLY! Oh and some filter floss thats changed DAILY!!!
LR = 12 lbs of LR 11 in tank 1 in mini refugium, all Inndonesian (the coraline on it is beautiful)
Skimmer = a basic one, AC brand hooked up to the AC 110,
    Calcium reactor = none
Lighting = Coralife 20" 96w 50/50 on from 12pm-6pm and a Coralife moonlight on at night.
Water = RO is from a grocery store (No access to DI)
Flow = The AC 110 creats some flow but we also run a MJ 1200 IMO it has Moderate/High flow through-out. Nice surface distubance as well.
Livestock = A few feather dusters that came as added bonuses with the LR, Cleaner Shrimp, Nass snails, cerith snails, Margarita Snails, Tiny Blue leg Hermits, Orange leg Hermit, Banded Trochus Snails and 2 clowns. Actual snail count unknown, hermits like to take thier shells but thats what I expected. We only have about 15 spare shells and nothing ever fits as well as a shell from something killed yourself right??!? A few zoas.
    Set-up For: Approx 8 months.
    Parameters = pH 8.2, Ammonia 0, Nitrates 0, Nitrites 0, kH 120, Calcium 420.
Temperature Control = We have a plain glass suction cup thermometer and a digital one. We have 1 50w heater (Jager) hooked up and 1 extra if we need it but it is currently used to "cure" SW when we need it.
