Keep the water clean, the light right and you will be fine.
Wow, this thread is 13 years old. I hope you followed the advice throughout your 10+ years in the hobby

You are 100% correct. As an old-timer who makes his living selling fancy equipment, I can assure you that most of it makes little if any direct impact. This month's algae filter may end up in a bucket in your basement in the fall.

Methodology is infinitely more valuable than technology... but a hell of a lot less fun. Sometimes you have to add sexy equipment to motivate you to stay in the game. It's no different from car tuner "upgrades". It's mostly stickers and LEDs, but if it motivates you to do regular oil changes, it's working.

Thanks so much for your feedback Mr. Wilson. Yes, so many $$ later, I realized I did not need a lot of those toys that I have sitting in my basement. I think I need to add to the classifieds now. LOL
In anycase, as you mentioned as well, my motivation has declined over the years and I have finally shut down my 120G. The only thing for me now is to start with a new build. Going to try something different like Fresh Water to see if it tickles my fancy. If not, then back to a good old salty. But the new setup will peek my interests again.

    Have a super weekend Sir.

Planted tanks are very rewarding, but just as much work as a reef tank. Enjoy!
