Hello, I've got a pair of GSM, and was wondering how old/big do they have to be when they're ready sexually to spawn..?

I don't really know how old my maroons are but, in sizes: larger female is about 3" and male is about 2"... the male was about 1.75" when i got him about a month ago and grew very fast, and he was very light in color but now he's color is getting darker and the yellow stripe is showing it's color more... like female... I think my male is still very young but, just wondering... =)

maybe Dman can lend me he's experience...

Thanks

My maroon is 4 1/2 inches approx and she lays eggs every other week.

My male is about 2 " also and is about 3 years old (just guessing based on how long I and others have had him)

Your idea of getting DMAN's opinion is the right one, since I really have no idea. My female actually came from Dman indirectly (it went to someone else after him, then to me) and only started breeding this year in my tank, she had never bred before.

I would imagine smaller sized females would breed fine as well...but i dont know.

My GSM's have laid a couple of clutches so far and the female is just over 4 inches including the tail. As the B. premnas are the largest of the clownfishes family getting as large as 6 inches and also have the largest clutches, ( I believe I've read records somewhere in the 8000+ range) the smallest fry (about half the size of A. frenatus fry) and the longest to metamophosis (on average 14-16 days compared to 7-9 for most others).
It's tricky to say exactly when they will start breeding, even if they do at all. Age is not a predeterming factor; as a clownfish can spend it's entire life as a non-sexual juvenile, start to finish.
