So I was moving around some rock in my tank to place my pulsing xenia closer to the light and I had to move my feather duster to do that. I turn around for one sec. and next thing I know my 10 Gal is covered in this spider web kinda stuff. I think it came from the duster but not really to sure.

All I have is the xenia, the duster, some blue legs, and some wierd hairy crab, (Ithink i saw an emrald to but it was late and dark).

Will this stuff do any damage?
What would be the best way to remove it?

I get it often when cleaning my tanks! ... Its dust trapped in Slime/waste from what i was told.. It can be released by all your corals... and never really notice it untill you stir up the dust in your tank.

So it wont kill anything in my tank?

Is there any way to clean it up or will it go away (so to say) on it's own?

you can use a turkey Baster and blow it off :)

I have loads of little tubeworms that do that. I think it might be to catch food cause I've seen a couple of them haul it back in again. If a small tubeworm can do it I guess so can your big duster worm.

On my live rock I have tiny white things that are part of the rock. They don't move they are like hard, white, tube like things and I have seen this "web stuff" coming out of them. Is this what you would call the tubeworm? (As mentioned above?)

Probably Lauriem, hard to say without a pic. There are two main types of tubeworm, those with hard tubes made of calcium and those with softer paper like tubes, not sure what they're made of. If they are tube worms you should see some sort of crown when it's open. Do an internet search for tube worms and featherdusters and have a look at pics of some, see if they match what you have. They won't hurt anything, but in my tank I'm starting to get annoyed they are spreading so much.

Hello

Nynick and Lauriem.. What you are discribing sounds like a Vermetid gastropod or worm snail. If you do a search on the internet using the first name I gave you, Vermetid gastropod you should get lots of info.

As for the original question Gaint tube worms don't fed by the use of a web that is what there crowns are for. They do on some ocasions release sperm into the water if stressed when moved or distrubed.

As for the slime released by corals, this can be very toxic to other corals in your tank. One of it's uses by corals is as a form of warfare. You want to limit this happening as much as possible..

You might want to try and id that hariy crab...I'm sure I read somewhere that most of the hairy crabs are not reef safe (and probably not fish safe either).
