Hi everyone i need some advise..can someone give me a list of everything i need to start a Saltwater fish only tank....I have a extra 33 gallon tank that i want to startup as a fish only tank.I currently have a 55 and a 75 gallon African Cichlid tanks.
I found this site and the prices are way cheaper than buying from my LFS...So if someone can give tell me everything i need to get started i will order my stuff from MOPS.
To be honest i only know the basics about the saltwater setup as in PH,Temp. So any help would be very much appricated. If i can get this to work out then i will switch my 55 into a saltwater tank also, but i know there is alot more work involved in SW,but i'm willing to learn.
Thanks

Hi all, now my LFS ..said i should go with a Undergravel filter, for a SW fish only tank. What do u all think? Please advise.

To be honest i don't have alot of good vibes about this LFS..We only have 4 here and only 2 have SW tanks,as far as i'm concerned i know as much as them and thats nothing :) ....I won't even buy nothing from any of them for my African Cichlid tanks.I buy everything from the net, even my fish.I must be doing something right with my Africans as i never had a fish die in 2 years.

I think its important to answer this question so everyone else here can see it. I'm sure you guys will have alote of people asking this question.

First thing you need to do is ask yourself some questions like what do you want to keep? fish only, reef, both, and so on. in your case pluff you want fish only. for filtering system you can go with a sump (a tank below your display tank that water flows into than pumped back out to your display tank, with a few inbetweens). you can go with a canister wet/dry system, eihem 2227 or 2229 is a good one. for fish only thats the way i would go. id also use live rock wich makes a nice decore pluse filtering system. heater, power jets, get your test kits, for lighting you can use any type of lighting at leat 2 watts per gallon, reefs need 3-5 watts per gallon of vho or pc or better yet metal hilides. that would be the very basic of keeping fish oly tank. you would have to learn about the cycling, before you can add any fish. but this would just give you an idea of whats needed, im sure i missed some stuff. now if you ask a more specific question im sure we can help you take off
