this might be a dumb question, but are they in american or canadian prices.... i see that they have the type of clowns i want for $11 :)

if its good qualityfish they sell, then it sure beats buying a $25 clown at big als

I might be in, would love a blue tang, and they seem hard to find right now (but I'm in London, so if it goes to TO, might need someone to hold for a bit)

Mark

PS - I have bought things from them in past and always good stock IMO, and well packed

Apparently their clams arrive in 2 weeks or so, so if this order takes a bit to organize, I would take a clam or 2.

I got clams from them in the past, and loved them, very healthy and colourful.

I might be interested in a pair of clown gobies or a royal gramma, depends when the order will be made.

How does it work again? We each phone our own orders in and they ship ours all together, billing each of us for our orders and our share of the shipping?

I am not getting this.

Yes, they are little chaper on the Red Sea staff then in LFS, but if you add price of packaging and shipping (from my past experience this is on average around $10 a fish), you are going to get close to BA prices. Yes, Purple tang at Big Al goes for $80 (price in London few days ago), instead of $60, but at least you know, what you are buying.

J&L packaging is first class, but if one thinks, that is going to save money, or is going to buy fish for a half price, is just dreamer.

fish are cheaper on J&L then BA's for sure, fireshrimp 49.99 at BAs and 25 at J&L im sure thats cheaper...dont you agree

Yes, but his point was by the time you factor in shipping costs, not so much as you think.

And he also has a point about not being able to see the fish/coral yourself. I don't think I'd order a coral, I'm very particular about shape/color. Clown gobies and royal grammas all look the same, but I might get sick ones if I can't pick them myself. It's riskier to get them online is his point. Do it enough and you may find you save nothing when you factor in the costs of deaths.

I am not saying, that is not cheaper. What I am saying, that when you add shipping and cost of the box the difference is not as big, unless you buy a lot.

I am also saying, that if you want to buy your dream fish, which would cost at J&L 60 and at LFS 80, it is just not worth it.

So going with your specific example, when we are talking about expensive animal with 100% price difference, you have to buy more then 2 shrimps at J&L, to break even. If you buy 2 fireshrimp at J&L, you have to pay $100.50 (2x$25+$45.50 shipping + $5shipping box).

Sorry guys if I mislead some to believe I was organizing it. I'm actually asking if someone would. I've never done mail order before and therefore would not even know where to begin in organizing a group purchase. The main purpose of the thread was to just point out the sale that jl is having and if a group buy was organized then I too would be in.
I apologize for the confusion that I may have caused.

I was in Vancouver a couple weeks back and stopped by to check out J&L's shop. They had a lot of fish in stock and the tanks were absolutely pristine. The fish looked extremely healthy and there were no signs of disease. I also noticed that they were taking the time to drip some inverts that had arrived.

It was good to see how well they run things and I certainly would not hesitate ordering from them after seeing this.

psiico

No one wants to organize it. I'm out now anyway, I spent my fish budget for this month on my springeri dottyback. $45 for such a tiny fish! Ouch! I stocked a freshwater community tank for less.
