I have a Precision Marine Hot-1 skimmer and it has overflowed twice, luckily I had a drain line into a 5 gallon bucket and still ended up with some water on the floor.
Precision Marine does sell a waste collector with an "auto" shut off but I have a hard time accepting to pay a lot for something that I feel should be incorporated into the skimmer already.
I'll be focusing on a couple of ideas I have to make one:
1) a flow valve in the bucket that would cut the power to the pump
2) something similar to what they sell at http://www.precisionmarine.com/Accessories/Waste_Collector/waste_collector.html
Pretty much using a float in a bottle that would block the air from escaping thereby stopping the flow into the bottle forcing the water to go through the skimmer into the aquarium.
I'm hoping one of you guys has build something like this and can advise me or perhaps throw some ideas my way.
Thanks.
