Mike...

Can you get a closer picture of the fish? It's hard to tell from the image that you have attached now.

Mike,

I would definitely say that from the images - it does NOT look like ICK. I don't want to say for 100% sure - but ths images do seem to indicate popeye.

There are a few different treatments for this.

Some people are successful in just letting nature run its course, and letting time heal the problem. I have done this before, and my tang was as good as new in about 2-weeks. While I cannot call this a "cure" or a "treatment" - it can and sometime does work. (I'm not a fan of 'treatments' in the tank. This is just me, and I'm not trying to push my ideas on anyone).

There are also a few other 'treatments' that are known to be good (all - with the exception of MelaFix - MUST be used in a Q-tank and not in your reef).

Nitrofuran
Kanacyn
*MelaFix* - they say that it can be used in your reef tank - I have never heard of any problems in doing this
Mardel SaltWater Maracyn-Two - which is an antibiotic called Minocycline that comes in tablet form (16-tabs & 100-tabs). This product is nice as it contains B complex vitamins to help stimulate metabolism and improve appetite.

My personal suggestion for a treatment would be this:
Do a 100% water change in your Q-tank
Add SW Maracyn-Two to your Q-tank at x2 the dose for 7-days.
Keep the fish in the Q-tank for another few days after treatment ends to be able to watch him (total time in Q-tank about 10-12 days).
This WILL eradicate the problem in 90% + cases.
Click this link to find out some more info on Mardel SW Maracyn-Two (http://www.mardel-labs.com/mardel/sfish.html).

Popeye is normally not a problem that will spread to other fish, as it's usually caused by the fish getting a small scratch - even from something so innocent as darting into the rock-work. 1/2 the time the injury is too small for you to even be able to see with the naked eye.

Good luck and I hope that all is well for your fish.

I have used Fresh Water Maracyn and Maracyn Two before, it is MUCH cheaper than SW, just add a couple extra tablets on the first day.

I have never used the FW Maracyn/Maracyn-Two - only the SW version in the above described dosing (that was advised to me by a 20+ year SW fish keeper/marine biologist). I don't know if I would personally use FW treatments in a SW environment - but that is just me.

...and yes the "patient" survived happy & healthy! :D

Good luck,

Rare to see a LFS dont try to sale a miracle treatment and I tink AJ's just right I never treat a fish when he is sick only give him good food most of the time it do the trick + most of the time medication only made more trouble + kill the fish from stress !!!

Thanks Stephane...

I will NOT promote anything that I don't personally believe in and/or use.
