Do a search on Reef Central for "Durso Standpipe (http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=409387&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) (or just click the link I gave you above).
This is a easy DIY modification you can make to the standpipe to help reduce the noise it makes.

Like AJ said, search for the Durso standpipe modification to help reduce the noise from the overflow. I myself have not had a problem with excessive noise from my overflows. All I'm using is a 18" length of ABS pipe which run full open. There is no noise whatsoever. Maybe I got lucky. :blob:
