As for Saltwater i currently have a 72 gallon Reef still working on it i have been into Saltwater for about 6 months.. Read LOTS! . and im starting up a 30 gallon Seahorse tank.

But off to the question! ... LOL

Im just wondering who all here uses Bio-Balls? Or any filtration for that matter!

I think bio balls are good for fish only type setups. IMO if you have live rock and a DSB you pretty much don't need the bio balls.

My 90 gallon filtration runs with a 3-5 inch DSB, about 100 lbs of live rock, 2 inline breeder/refugium tanks, my sump has cc in it loaded with worms, and a skimmer that does basically nothing except maybe oxegenate the water. The 2 fuges are full of macro.

Mike, I started my saltwater tank about 5 years ago as a fish only tank, I used a wet/dry with bio balls........but I have since changed to a reef tank (3 yrs) with approx 200 lbs of live rock. I have slowly removed the bio balls over a 6 month period and my system is running fine.

Cool... i was just wondering.. Long story but my 90 gallon Cracked and it was a emergency so i had to down size to a 72 gallon.. But i picked up a huge Trickel Filter... and i was just wondering.. I was going to just Ripp out the bioballs.. i dont like they anyways..

i dont have a huge about in the tank..

well i have 120 pounds of DSB, about 40 pounds of live rock.. Will be buying more.. and a Seaclone 100 skimmer.. Looking for a new skimmer as well... Soon..

Im currenty running a Eheim 2217 Canaster filter... Just for safty until i get all the live rock i want... In the trickle filter i am puttng a DSB, about 20-30 pounds of live rock and calurpa.. So when that is all in there.. then i will slowly remove the media from my Eheim... and use it for Carbon, so on..
