That's what I'm hopin!
A little incentive always worked for me...so I figured why not. If nothing else...after the amount of work involved installing the php scripts...people had better like it! ;)
Don't forget the Refer Friends Link too (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/refer.php)

Unfortunately, the way the system counts is only from the installation time and not from the actual number of posts the person has.
This is also meant to try to stimulate help between the members here and not just as a "come look at my pics" generator - so I may have to remove the points for the "Views" or at least lower them. You do help out a lot Stephane...and I thank you for that!
This will just give you the need to keep posting :D

I had seen this Karma thing on another board, but never understood it, thanks for the low down on the whole thing.
You're right though, it should generate some traffic. Not that traffic was bad for a Canadian board, actually it's been really good. Keep up the good work, and I agree with Kasia, You should get HUGE Karma for puttin this whole thing together.

Awe...shucks. :embarrase
T'was nuttin ---> ACTUALLY....it was a huge PITA with all the .php script editing....AAAAAHHHHHH....no more! :flameth:
lol....Actually...If you read a persons post and want to contribute Karma to the poster...you will see a Karma button at the bottom of their post (where it has their contact PM/E-mail/Profile and the Quote buttons)...click it and you can Agree or Disagree with their post. If you agree with it...then the poster gains more Karma, and if you disagree - they will loose Karma. Sort of a Pier-Driven set-up. You can also enter a Comment to give a reason to your vote.
Also, as a Moderator - You have the option to give/subtract "Bonus" Karma too.
Try it out!!
Cheers all...and I'm glad that you (the people who have commented) are liking the new features. Makes me happy as they took a long while to get installed and working properly. ;)
Best regards,

Hi guys!
I'm a new mod here guys. The karma idea seems great. I'm just fiddling around with all these functions now.

One question thou, why do you lose one point for disagreeing with a post, the user may have a very valid reason to disagree. I don't think you should loose a point just because you disagree, argue maybe but correcting a mistake or pointing out an error should be okay. Just my two cents

How can you check your karma or others karma? Did you determine a discount code for the karma?
Michael_Lambert
August 18th, 2004, 04:07 PM
Check your Karma, By clicking on the Green or Red stars under your name... It will tell you how many Karma points..

It looks like one can get an excellent karma just by posting a lot, without having any knowledge of the hobby. i.e. ask a lot of questions, especially controversial ones that generate a lot of views and replies.
This could lead to a newcomer weighing comments by such user heavier than should be based on the karma.

If I'm not wrong, karma increases when alot of ppl reply to a thread u created.
In addition, karma is not a representation of your knowledge in the hobby. I think aj mentioned that karma can be used towards redeeming vouchers or something similar when shopping at aquariumpros.ca

With the new site - comes new changes.
Rather then Karma - there is now Reputation. This is indicated by the Green square under the users post count (at the top right of every post). Hover your mouse over this indicator to see the users level.
You will also see a set of scales above the Join Date/Location/Posts/Reputation Indicator. These scales are how you can give/subtract from the users reputation. Click the scales - and it gives you options.
See the attached images below for more details on the Reputation feature.

What happened to the trader ratings? Have these been done away with? How can we let others know about a good trader or add to that persons track record like we could on the old system?

Working on getting that back as well - but are trying to tackle the other existing issues before we start adding to the problems. :)
Bear with us - as we hope to have everything running properly again very soon.

I noticed a new line called Rep power. What is this and how does it work?
ajx22
October 27th, 2004, 09:10 PM
See the image of the Reputation levels above - the more Rep Power one has - the more they can GIVE / SUBTRACT from other members.

Quoted from an email received from TJ_Burton:
how is this rep power thing working? I have no understanding even after reading the rep thread...
How is it my rep power went to 0 from 16?
As you get more positive Reputation given to you (from others and posting/days registered/etc.) - you obtain more Reputation Altering Power.
Look at the "Reputation Point Factor" = for every 100 points of reputation - you gain one point of Reputation Altering Power - in other words, you have to EARN the ability to Give/Take reputation to others. As you gain reputation points - you also gain more ability to alter others reputation - in a positive or negative way.
This will help ensure that people who have higher Rep levels - have actually EARNED it - and not just made a thousand useless posts - or had a buddy issue them Positive's for every post made.
Hope this makes more sense...
