I built a really neat hood for my 10 gallon out of 5/8 wood, 7" high all the way arround, eccept the back(3"). there is three small peices on each side of the hood to extend it out to house 55w pc's, the top is about 16" by 26" , However, I am a bit concerned with how heavy it is. Does anyone know how heavy a hood can be for a small 10 gallon glass tank without putting too much pressure on the tank's glass so it would break and flood my floor? Is there some kind of specification for this?

The biggest thing to insure is that the weight is distributed evenly over the entire edge. Make sure it isn't placing most of it on apposing corners etc.

Since a 10 gallon is close to 100lbs full, I would guess that 25% of that would be safe. It will add extra strain so everyting should be looked at close, ie the tank to stand alignment and how level the 4 corners of the stand are. Direct pressue doesn't have much inpact on glass, twisting has major impact..
