Hi

Although I have kept FW for many years I would like to try SW using a JBJ Nano Cube. What has attracted me is the lower costs asscotiated with the Nano.
My biggest concern is supplying water for the tank, obviously because of costs an RO unit is out of the question especialy since it would only be used for the Nano.
What are my options for water? Can I use Boyds products to remove unwanted phosphates etc?
Any help, guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Your best bet would be to buy off another hobbyiest.. Most places will charge around $3-5 for a 5 gallon jug of RO water.. Where you can buy from a hobbyiest for what ever.. and a 5 gallon jug would last you a month :) Or talk to Tom over at ORG as they sell RO/DI water.

Hi

I have thought of that, Big Al's has that option but the thought of carrying those pails around is something I would like to avoid.
What about the Tap Water Purifier from AP

Nope... that won't do the job (unless you want to deal with hair algae & cyano) I suggest you get one of the 18L water jugs (that go upside-down on the coolers) and use that. I use the RO water from the Culligan machine at my local Dominion or sometimes from a local store called The Water Drop.

First off...

:welcome1:
to AquariumPros.ca

Just buy your RO/DI water from a location that sells it - as most add-in products are inadiquate at removing Chloramine...and will NOT remove the heavy metals, etc (like copper) that is found in tap water.

Many Fish stores and water stores also sell their RO/DI water.

Also...a small RO set-up is not that much:
(AquariumPros.ca sells small 2-stage units for $149.99)

Lower costs will come into play - however - make sure that you don't skimp on the PRIMARY life of your tank - WATER.

I get my RO for a larger system at a water supplier (ie Culligan, Kern, or many others). Costs me less than $3 for 5g (happy hour u-fill Tuesdays)
