I have an Olympus C-3000.
I must be doing something wrong.
Most of my shots are out of focus and the colours are way off.
I am using the macro mode with the flash off.
Do you turn your actinics off when you take pics?
By the way, what camera are you using?
Awsome close ups.

I love the mushrooms. Nice. Anyone care to let the rest of us know what shipping ended up as for each person ordering the livestock?

Hey Squatch:
I have an Olympus C-3000 too, and find that when you use the macro, you cant be zoomed in as much as you think you can... That display screen makes things look sharp even if they are not quite. So unzoom just a bit from where you think is good.
The pics with just actinics dont turn out so well.
Turn your macro on and it'll display that flower icon thing.
I like the camera, but wish it was 8x zoom (like the one mitch is / was selling)

My snails and fire shrimp are great! The only thing is the shrimps feelers are pretty short. One of them has a few long and a few short. The other is all short. Oh well they'll grow back. The snails were really cool too. I love the look of the bumble bee snails. Sorry no camera to take pictures. For the three bags my shipping was just 13 dollars. WOW. I got two fire shrimp and like 5 snails for like 20 bucks less than it would cost for fire shrimp around here!

You may want to be careful with those bumble bee snails as they are considered predators of other small snails and worms.
Here is a link from Dr. Ron's forum on Reefcentral.

Engina mendicaria are these the same snail
or are they different?
Bumble Bee Snail Tiny - Pusiostoma mendicaria
The Bumble Bee Snail Tiny may grow to 1 inches. Herbivore. The Pusiostoma mendicaria is generally peaceful toward other tankmates. Reef-safe. Many consider the Pusiostoma mendicaria a low-maintenance specimen. Not venomous. Algae eater, sand sifter.
The above link refers to the bubblebee as venomous....I quickly skimmed thru alot but this is what I had found looked for a different source of info.

I checked my tank this morning to find my new crocea clam on the bottom on its side.
It has detached itself from the rock I had put it on at mid level in the tank.
I placed it back on the rock but it didn't look good. It was all closed up and the foot was completely retracted.
I did pick off a couple of tiny snails when I originally put it in on Friday last week.
Maybe more snails inside ???
Any chance it will be alright?
Any advice is appreciated.
Will it be obvious if it is dead. What are the signs?
Thanks
Rob

Rob, if you need any help let me know. I've had a few run in's with pryramellid snails before and have yet to lose a clam to them. Make sure the crocea stays put. Place it on a slightly curved flat rock on the sand if need be. When they fall and land downside in the substarate they can't breathe. Let us know if you need a flat rock etc., I have some.

Was it attached to the rock? J&L just got their clams in on the 9th. I'd be suprised if it had been shipped from Vietnam, rebagged, and then attached itself in such a short period of time.
Did it have it's foot? I know the exporter J&L indirectly got their clams from, and they typically only hold them for 1 week after collection. It will take up to 3 weeks before the clam will perish if it was improperly collected. If the clam was closed it's still alive, a dead or dying crocea will surely show signs of gaping.
If the clam was attached firmly in your tank follow the link about the pyram snails, it's a good one.

I arrived home from work to find the clam was still where I had placed it this morning and everything is back to normal.
The clam looks good as far as iI can tell.
No signs of any more snails either.
I guess I just panicked when I saw it lying on the substrate.
My halides are off now and just the actinics are on. It seems to have closed slightly but I guess thats normal when it gets dark.
I am wondering if something knocked ikt off its rock?
I do have 2 red legged hermits and they are quite large.
DBM - Are these from Vietnam or Not?
Thanks for the help guys.

If your clam has attached itself, nothing is going to "knock it off" the rock. Check your clam for snails every week for at least a month.
Yes, they're from Vietnam. I'm not sure about the market in T.O., but here in Vancouver all the croceas are from Vietnam.
I understand a couple of the exporters are figuring out that it's best if they collect their own clams if they're destined for the aquarium market. Vietnam has a bad rap because some of the exporters purchase their clams from the food market collectors (improperly collected). Personally I haven't seen this, but Vietnamese clams are new to the Vancouver market.

Ducatti
April 27th, 2004, 09:53 PM
yup it was..but dont think they give discounts to members....BUT they do give free shipping if you buy over 200.00 (dry goods though)

April 27th, 2004, 09:59 PM
because it was a group order shipping was minimal per item if you read the thread worked out very well, I am not ready yet but in a couple weeks I could be!
