Do you see those shifty beady eyes?

Notice that brand spankin new snail shell?

He's doing hard time now for the murder of an innocent creature. I actually watched it stock the snail, push it under a rock where I couldn't rescue it and picked at it all night until this morning where he had a brand new home.

I hope it's comfortable for him!!!

Enjoy :boohoo:

Hermits are all evil !!!! I think I'll buy a flame hawkfish and introduce my hermits to him.

Hahaha...

My buddy used to feed his evil hermits to his anemone, who gladly excepted his lobster dinner...

Hey stan,

zebra legged hermit right? What makes them "nastier"??...Just more viscious. He's got plenty to eat in the tank such as algea, little tiny bugs etc...

You have the right idea TJb...I believe that might be in my near future.

The small hermits aren't bad at all. In fact I enjoy watching them, but this Goliath is what's killing me. You can't tell from the pic but he's the biggest hermit i've ever seen. When he comes running over that live rock everything clears out of his way, including my hand when in the tank...

I also have a felon in a supposedly docile red legged reef hermit in a brand new Astrea shell. He ignored a good selection of empty shells scattered all over the tank preferring the home with the built in meal! Oh well, more algae for the blenny!

Most crabs are opportunistic predators, but they're cool to watch. They add a little variety to the tank, but I'm not sure how much good they actually do. I'm not sure if I'll put them in the new tank or not.

You reminded me rami, what is a good sand sifter and algae eater that would be suitable for a small tank. I noticed you have a 29g but I have a 5g nano. wondering if you have any suggestions or if a blenny will survive...there's quite a bit of algae for eating in there now, and I could feed it shrimp pellets or some other 'live' food if necessary...

sorry to change the subject of the evil hermit, but I am curious about a sand sifter of some sort. The hermits are not only dangerous, but lazy too

Hello

They go under many common names including the one you mentioned. As for what makes them nastier then most? Size, temperment, they have very little use for algae not sure if they even eat it. They are not really opportunistic predators they are predators period, they have no problem seek out prey they don't need to wait for any special opportunity they make there own. Never seen any hermit turn down a meat dinner for any type of algae.

I have 5 of those guys, one killed and ate his first snail Saturday. He didn't even take the shell. It's a big crab, twice the size of the others and he was bigger then the astrea he killed. I'm thinking of letting him find out that all drains don't lead to the ocean, lol. So I increased my feedings of raw shrimp/scallops. If he does it again, they're gone.
