Dallis....I don't know how long you have been in
the hobby but dont be hard on yourself....
A Clown tang is an extreeeemly difficult or CAN BE
an extremly difficult tang to keep....I do NOT recommend
you try another one...In fact..I wish they would quit
selling that gorgeous fish as I have only met ONE PERSON
that kept that fish alive for over a year and it was
in a HUUUUUGE tank FULL of greens!!! Other then that....
good luck keeping it alive....it wont happen likely....
OF course there are exceptions....
So....anyone reading this that is having luck with
that fish for say over a year I would LOVE to know...
I love the fish but....it just WONT live for the average
reefer....
Sorry to hear Dallis.....

Well...Flav...if you had it for 4 years that is about 3 years longer then the longest I have seen one kept in captivity...at least by
a hobbiest....
Would you keep one again?
And if so....how would you maintain it?

i paid this fish a ridiculous amount,i would not try again as they require a tank with good skimming etc.not in the budget, also i didnt know back then their limited survival, which i do now so i think its such a nice fish its better left in the ocean.

Yes, think your right Flavio...the clown tang AND
the achillies tang are better left in the ocean....
Nobody keeps them alive long enough to bother brining them in....
It is terrible that we allow it to happen...
Same with moorish idols what a waste of beauty and life.
Does not make sense to bring it in....
Damn Money!

It's nice to hear hobbiests talk like that. I think too many people keep fish that are known to have poor lifespans in captivity. To bad LFS still sell these animals.I think these LFS should be educated better before ordering there fish, but unfortunately money can buy anything!

I told the manager that who ever buys it,that it won't last long.As i was telling him about this site and what i,ve read. Then he tells me that he herd the opposite, that there very easy to keep.Anyways thats the LFS for ya,and there Bull >>>>.

thanks Rob....
CLown Tangs are anything but easy to keep...
not because I say so...but because its true!
People find a powder blue challenging....
I have one...and it is doing 100% after 8 months...
However...I would NEVERRRRR try to keep a clown
tang after I saw one I kept years ago fade very quickly in an
extremely healthy environment.
My friend lost one.
Another friend lost his....
NOPE..they are NOTTT easy to keep....
Hats off to anyone that has done it....
Stores should NOT bring this fish in.

ST, what is wrong with keeping an achilies tang? I've had mine now for 4 or 5 years and he was only a problem at first with ick, but after copper treatment, he's had no reoccurance since. All tank mates have been treated with hypo at 1.008 for at least 5 weeks before being placed together.

Rayjay...if you have kept that achilies alive you are doing
FANTASTIC!!! I guess once you get them past the aclimation
period it is to a certain degree downhill....but...every single
achilies I have seen in a store BAR NONE have had the ick
all over them! Congratulations! It is a gorgeous fish and
if you can keep it alive I can tell you that you are likely in
the MAJOR MINORITY.

Sorry Suzie..didn't mean to steal your
dream of having that gorgeous fish.....
I really love them also but ..again...honestly they
are tricky...too tricky for the average bear to keep.
Just my opinion and I am not a pro....
How are things in the UK these days....
Do you realize I am the BIGGEST BEATLES FAN IN CANADA!! haha
Take care,
Tim
