O.K, here goes. Last night I added water to the 90 gallon used aquarium I bought.(same one I mentioned in the other post). Once I got the hood on and turned on the lights I could see millions of hairline scratches just like you would see on a cars paint when it is washed with a rag that has tiny particles of dirt.(swirls)
I want to keep the tank but cannot stand the scratches. Has anyone ever replaced the glass on a tank and is it worth it. The glass is 1/2 inch plate and measures 32" across and 24" up and down. I actually have not paid for it yet so I can still cancel the deal but it came with oak stand and hood, skimmer, sump,U.V sterilizer,MH 400watt pendant, 75 gallon tank and 20 gallon hex tank with filters and 7 Otto Power heads for $1000.00. I have been doing the reef thing for some time now but have never encountered this problem.

Brent,
Replacing the glass on the front of you tank will depend on one thing, how is the sealed to the rest of the tank?
If the front pane of glass covers the entire face then replacing it would require no more than cutting it off, cleaning up the mating surfaces then slapping the new pane on.
The next hardest replacement is when the tank consists of a four sided box set on a floor of glass. The cutting out is a little harder, the cleanup can be a PIA and the new piece has to have tighter tolerances and absolutely square corners.
The hardest replacement, and I don't recommend it, is when the front pane of glass is an insert. I can email or fax you in greater detail.

Thanks guys. Deep down I aready knew the answer I just had to hear it(ha ha). I have nothing in the tank the only reason I filled it with water was to check for leaks. I'll probably ask him to cut a couple hundred dollars of the price. No big deal. I have priced the same tank here in the Sault for $546 taxes in. I do not intend on putting anything in the tank until after Christmas including LR. This is going to be my tank of tanks and I am going to take my time especially in designing the plumbing to tie it in with an RO/Di unit as well as the plumbing for my pumps for water current and cirrculation which are going to be in the sump. Hey another quick question. I have video tape of my last reef tank but no pictures, do you know what I can use to convert it into pictures so I can upload them to anyone who gives a damn? Thanks again.

Brent,
Try looking into a Dazzle type video capture unit and software, but this is really ajx22 specialty
