I am placing another order from HelloLights.com tomorrow (Wednesday) and need to know if anyone needs anything.
If you haven't already seen them...check out the NEW Xanium X2 (http://hellolights.com/newproduct.html) bulbs!! They are available in 10000K and 15000K and are basically a combination of a 10000K German with Actinic 03 supliments!!

Another good site for a direct comparison of the 10000K and the 15000K Xanium X2 bulbs.
I will be using x3 of the 250 Watt Xanium X2 bulbs to light the new 220Gal!!
See the new bulbs compared HERE!! (http://www.romperroo.com/FishCorner/MarineCenter/BigReef/Lighting%20Comparison/light_comparison.htm)

That 's good to know AJ, I'm thinking of trying out the X2's to replace my Iwasaki's.
Are you going to run any VHO's or go with MH only?

I will be adding an IceCap 660 with URI Super Actinic 03 VHO's as well. I will also be adding the dimmer unit for the dusk/dawn effect. I hope that with these X2's I will not need to run the VHO's with the MH's to have a nice color and GLOW!! :D

I figured they are worth a try. What the hey, I have Sunburst, Ushio, Venture & Iwasaki. May as well try this one also.
I have an order in for 400w 10K bulbs. For sure the price is right. It will be the only bulb on my tank, no supplements.

Doug
Of the four brands you have listed here which do you prefer?

I prefer my Sunburst 12K. But it needs to be supplemented. I have done so with 4/40w normal output 65K bulbs or a pair of 175w 10K Ushio bulbs.
The 175/10K----400/12K-----175/10K was the best light I have had. Great growth & nice coral colour & nice visual colour.
However, I wish to use just a single 400 over the tanks center & the 12K is not enough alone. The 400w 65K & 55K bulbs, while packing tons of whallop, are not blue enough for my personel tastes without being supplemented. They will grow your corals though. "BIG". FWIW, I have also run a standard 400 watt 43K bulb for a period just to see the results. The corals were fine, but very yellow.
I am now running the 400w 55K Venture alone. Nice crisp white colour, but not enough blue for me.
I was going to go with a 400w 10K German, perhaps the best middle of the road,{colour wise}, bulb. It also has a decent life. But at the price of the new bulbs, why not give them a try.
It would be nice if we,{Canadians}, could purchase halides for our aquariums, without taking out a second mortgage.:)
Again, FWIW, as I have mentioned before on other boards, here is what I would use on a standard 4ft tank, from my experience.
A pair of 250 watt Iwasaki 65K bulbs. Very nice crisp white colour, and IMO, much more so than the 400w version. Very long lasting,{up to 2 years}, best buy for the buck@ a decent price. Then I would add a pair of 110 watt VHO actinics, driven by an Icecap ballast.
This gives an overall beautiful colour for both your tank & your corals. The saki,s provide enough par for excellent growth & the actinics, while also providing par, give the nice blue look & different colours in your corals.
Although I used only n/o actinics with the above, it was still nice, but for the price, I would go vho. I sometimes wish I had not sold my Iwasaki set-up & switched to the 400watt pendant.

Thanks for the reply, Doug. I was hoping you would say Sunburst.
From the pictures I've seen of these brands it seems to me the Sunburst would need the least blue supplementation. I think I'll shoot for dual 400w Sunbursts and add actinic as required. I'm planning a 90g tank with mostly sps and clams. (Love those clams!!):)

I would like to add on the Sunburst. I will make it short, as this is AJ,s thread and I dont wish for it to get de-tracked.:D
A pair of 400,s should be fine, both colour & par wise, but will be blue coloured. You wont need any extra actinics, as they are blue already. I,as mentioned above, had to add some whiter light to supplement the blue.
You should also know that I am one of the few that like the 12K. Most dont. There have been a lot of reported failures & short bulb life. They changed the bulb some, so I am not sure how the new ones are. I have had good luck with them myself.
Remember though, they are blue, and dont look as bright, so one must like that colour. As with any high colour temp bulb, one must overcome the lower par, by running more watts and/or electronic or HQI ballasts, such as with the 20K
As I mentioned above also, even though I love the colour, one bulb alone does not have enough light for my tank, where as the lower temp bulbs do.

Just received notice that there is a parcel @ the post office for me from the HelloLights (there are supposed to be x2 boxes in this order, so I'm not sure what's up with that).
I am heading there shortly (pickup after 5pm EST) to collect the box.
All ordered lights will ship out Monday morning!!
Sorry for the delay...customs took extra-long to clear these - just my normal luck.
Cheers all...

All photos are un-touched (not edited).
Only the indicated MH lights are on in all photos.
Color is nice from the Xanium...brightness (PAR) is definitely a bit lower (as seen in the side-by-side images).
