I've seen ups cases etc.
Any good suggestions and where to get?
Don't need anything fancy like the cool touch lighting cases, but something functional would be nice.

I used an old Hard Drive Case. It had a fan built in and an Off/On switch. You could check out CPUSED or Active surplus for such things.

You'll need the tall hard drive cases, not the flat ones.

I had three 400 watt ballasts in an red metal tool box. Really nice.

I've made three cases so far out of old CPU boxes.
They're light, made from aluminum so they disspate heat well and have plenty of room inside.

Approximately how big a box do I need?
Dimensions in Inches?

Its just the cpu and hard drive boxes you are talking about are a lot smaller than I thought the ballast would be?

Ahy Mike...........

I don't know if this helps but here's a photo of the ballast I bought from pbutkovich. It works great. Not sure who made it but it works...................I'll keep you informed on how it is on the hydro bill as it has not been fired up very long.

Check out your local surplus store. I used a munitions box for my core and coil ballast.

You should try to vent the box if you can.

I used a drill and a hacksaw blade to cut square holes in the sides of the box. Used steel mesh to cover the vent holes.

You could also try a local electronics store to see if you can find a utility box of the right dimensions. No one in my area seemed to carry that sort of thing though.
