Hi, Have to do buisness here for now. Darn mail went down again today.

While were checking for skimmers, how about this one. Seeing as how you sell Aqua-Medic, they have a 6ft. cc called the 5000L. Hows its availability and price comparison to the Tunze?
Thanks

I have a TorboFlotor 5000 Single (with Ocean Runner pump) - and that baby set me back $1,500.00 due to shipping a 6' long box from Germany! OUCH!

The 5000L CC version would be about $999.00 plus shipping costs (usually works out cheaper to have it drop-shipped from AquaMedic direct to the customer). This unit will process up to 800Gal.
Doug - aren't you running a 180Gal tank? Wouldn't this much skimmer be overkill? Just wonderin?! :D

I will find out the shipping cost from AquaMedic to you if you would like.

Let me know...(GREAT tank BTW)

I knew I should have put it in this forum first.:P

"cough,cough":eek2: Mucho $$$$$$$$$$$$$. A bit expensive for my taste. Try explaining that one to my wife. Thanks for the info. Perhaps it would be overkill, but smaller cc skimmers dont seem to work to well. I have always had an interest in them. Tried a couple, but were not very good. Maybe I will take another crack at building one or on the other hand, just stick with the 3130.

Doug, is this big enough? They don't cost much to make. Air supply is the biggest cost if you don't have a big supply. (I use a Ford air pollution pump powered by a 3/4 hp motor)

Hi Ray, Thanks for the pics. Going over them now. Whats momma say about her ceiling.

Man, thats some kinda air pump. I know that in my experiments with some 3in chambered models, the biggest standard air pump I could buy, would not drive it.

Actually, just as a point of interest, I would use my Euroreef in my above tank sump. Except that the Eheim driving it packed it in and it seems impossible almost to get a Sedra needle wheel pump. Thats why my interest in the 3130 also, as I have no sump & trying to make a nice neat package, SO I CAN GO SOMEWHERE.

As good as my ATS is, & its working excellent as seen below, its in my way. I have to use it as such, because of all the shipping damage to the body.

I borrowed an air pump from Incredible Aquariums some time ago, and it would power two of my skimmers with a little air bled off for other uses. However, I had 5 of these skimmers on the go, so I couldn't afford enough of these to power all.
The pump I borrowed was the top of the line "The Pump" and if memory serves right, it was about $1800.

These are good pumps, however if you run them for any period of time you will need to make some modifications to it's output to prevent it from overheating and the motor frying.

On the output section, you need to build a 2" PVC section about 6-8 inches long. This will connect to the pump and the metal valve segment using PVC/ABS reducers and clamps. This allows for a pressure buffer. After seeing 4 of these pumps burn themselves out - I inquired with a Hagen rep who gave me this tid-bit of info.

They are not cheap pumps, but worth it once you add this mod.

Hmmm, lets see. $1000 plus delivery for the skimmer, then :eek1: $1800:eek2: ,for an air pump. Getting a bit expensive guys.

Doug, because that pump will provide enough air for two skimmers, now you need to buy another skimmer and then set up another tank for it to skim.:D
At least my way, the skimmers I can build for about $50 apiece and the pump was donated by the auto wreckers and the 3/4 hp motor was donated by a refrigeration firm who took it out of a replaced furnace.
Sure is nice to find people to donate to my cause.

:D

I was looking at a piston pump today on Champions site. It was $70 US

I have not fully decided yet, but I think I will get AJ to order me the Tunze 3130. Nothing will be over hanging my tank then. :D

FWIW, I have talked with several companys, but not yet Euroreef themselves. Still cant purchase a replacement pump. This is no problem if you have bought a new one and have a reciept, but mine was used.:(

Doug

Let me know whatever you decide, and I'll do whatever I can to assist you.

In regards to the air pump from Champion - we have a wholsale account with them, and may be able to get it for you cheaper. Don't forget the cost of shipping and duty too!

Just let me know...if it's for the Tunze - let me know ASAP as we have an order going into them next week and could add this item to it.

Thanks, I sent you an e-mail.

I would imagine that piston pump would sound like my snowblower running. Betcha my wife would love that.

About the same as a hairdrier going! :D I had one set-up in the basement and it was the same volume as the clothes drier.

BTW---I got your mail and set some back 2 ya!

----->TAG - You're it! :laugh:
