Hi all
Here's the thing, I have an acrylic potential sump and I have the 55gal glass tank.
The acrylic measures 2' L x 1' W x 15" H
Will the acrylic sump be long enough?
If I use baffles how many? and how high?
The 55gal I could use as one long fudge if I can make the acrylic work, just plumb the 55gal into the acrylic sump.
Is it worth using the acrylic or ditch it and use the 55gal for sump and fudge?
Room for both is not a problem

I would use the acrylic as a refugium and the 55 gallon as the sump.

Thank you for the warm welcome:).
I have a 55 gallon, sumpless reef tank in my entryway. Just recently I have installed a 225 gallon in-wall reef tank with a 95 gallon sump & 29 gallon q-tank. I had the 225 gallon built with a Starfire glass front panel and all the rest is acrylic> it has an external overflow box so that you don't see it in the tank. It came out really great and I am really pleased. I am still working on this one!! This weekend I am going to rearrange & add more live rock and try the stockman mod, instead of the durso. I am doing this slowly because I want to enjoy it and once I am done I don't think I'll be able to convince by husband we need any more tanks!!
Great to find this wonderful new board. I found it by clicking on Stephane's signature link on Reef Central.

No problem at all Stephane...I like to see the images immediately rather the wait and click...
I will keep it this way until the bandwidth gets too much - shouldn't be an issue anytime soon!
ALL ARE WELCOME!!! It's great to have a diversity of people to be able to learn from!

Joyce I bet you will be glad when the 225 is all done:) built into the wall is cool to.
"Starfire glass front panel and all the rest is acrylic>"
I didn't know they could do that.
Well I still don't know about using glass or acrylic.
On the one hand the acrylic tank is short but it is soooo much easier to drill holes for the bulk head fittings for the skimmer and return pump and an area to hold the probes and water top off float switch, plus adding the baffles is a snap just take it to the shop that put it together some years back and let em glue away, plus I could put the mag outside of the sump for more space in there.
Glass is good in this case b/c the sump would have lots of length, but other that I am not seeing the advantage to using it b/c adding all the holes as listed above would be alot more $$$ in the long run I think and a roll of the dice that they will not break it with adding so many holes.
What problems do you all see with using the acrylic one that I am not seeing?

Well I am going to price out a larger sump made in acrylic.
I thought about it and I just see it as a easier material to use than glass for the sump plus, people seem to prefer it or eventualy change to acrylic so I thought, hmm why not do it now if I can (not to much $$$$) rather than later.
I will post the quote when I get it along with the dimensions, I decide on for anyone out there that may be interested.
