This looks like a very interesting gadget! The company has plans to add additional functionality - do what they are?
Are you going to have an introductory sale on them?

Hello Liz. There are rumours that nitrate and alkalinity monitoring will be a future upgrade but no confirmation yet. The price currently listed is our introductory price and is not anticipated to go any lower.

Are you going to sell the slides to go with it and if so, how much are they going to be for a year supply?

Hello Liz. Seneye normally does not sell replacement strips to the dealers but we will be getting some. The price will be around $33 for a 3 month supply. The strips do not have to be used continuously unless desired as some functions do not require them.

Very interesting, thanks for the post.

I'll admit that having an indwelling light meter is a neat idea, in addition to the other things it monitors. Once they add the nitrate and alkalinity features, I think a lot of reefers will be sold on it, since there is no other system that I know of that can continuously monitor all these things.

Looks interesting. Can't wait for some user reviews! If it preforms as expected, and gets the upgrade for Nitrate/Alk, I could see myself buying one. The savings in knowing when to change bulbs could offset the cost of the slides.

thanks

The user reviews are out on this already, it was available in europe for a little while now. Do a search online for user feedback. For me. i dont test ammonia, i have a digital thermom 8 bucks.
PLus i read the par meter isnt near as effective as the apogee mq200. Give it a calcium and alk monitor and i am sold.

Hello Nc208082,

I have not seen an $8 thermometer that will send you an alert if your tank overheats.

Even if the PAR meter is not the best one available it will still give a great indication of when your lights need replacing. How many users really need to know exactly what their PAR is anyway? Most know what kind of light output their lights have before purchasing and just need to know when to replace them. It also measures Kelvin. Does the Apogee do that? Can the Apogee send you an alert if your lights fail? The Seneye is also half the price of the Apogee.

Don't forget that the Seneye also monitors and alerts about water level and pH. Tons of features for under $200.

Please let me know if there is a comparison between the Seneye light meter and any others as I have only seen speculation at this time and no actual proof. I have seen proof that the Ammonia meter is extremely accurate and the pH meter is also quite accurate.

Hello Lucifa68,

Your question was answered a few posts back.

I do not wish to get into a debate or post links to other forums about use of this said device by a group of beta users. The bottom line came down to how good and effective can this par reader be for the price this unit costs. Comparing it to the apogee which has been proven and given good results for years was a comparison in which majority agreed when using light sensitive materials specific to performing underwater there wasn't really a cheap side to it. The other meter mentioned was a photon light meter which was thousands. So we just wondered how this company did it with all those other features for basically under a hundred bucks. we have to incorporate markup and other costs associated with the unit.

They seem to have taken the Microsoft route to it and made it so they lose money on selling you the xbox 360 but make it all back markup of games and accessories to go with it. A constant subscription to use most of features such as ph monitoring, temp readings, alerts etc.

Sounds Like a Great deal. Looks like a Great push in the industry as well.
So these replacement "disks" are only going to be available from the manufacturer?
(minus the initial few you will get)

Regardless of how the manufacturer plans to produce a revenue stream, as long as the Seneye light meter provides consistent readings it will be an invaluable tool for determining lighting parameters and bulb replacement requirements. The Seneye will likely pay for its self within a year even if it is only used as a light meter. Without any testing the quality of the unit can not be judged on pricing alone. It was not long ago when a flat panel TV was 10-20 times the price they are today, while the quality has gotten better.

If you do have a link to any testing of the Seneye light meter I would be appreciative if you could PM me a link. Thanks!

Lots of talk about additional features coming. Do you know if the main unit has to be replaced to realize any updates or will they be added to the existing units via the slides? Looks like they will need a redesign of the front panel on the unit? I would hate to buy the main unit now and find I have to replace it in 6 months...

The answer to your question was received from Seneye today.

The ‘digi-strip’ reader will be an add-on accessory product for the current seneye device. At the moment we don’t have an official release date for this accessory but we expect it to be at least 6 months before it is available.

Great to hear they are forward thinking in this... I love the concept and might hedge that it will be easier to get just the add on piece later on than the whole unit combined when demand goes through the roof!
