Great looking tank! Love the web-site!

Are you going to replace the DSB or keep it as a bare bottom tank?

Thanks for the welcome guys. Anyone interested in the long story on the results from the move can see a thread on RC called, pics after the move.:(

AJX, Thanks for the complement on the page. Needs to be all redone now. I have decided to remain bare bottom. I am covering it with rubble as seen in the pics. My sandbed was doing well, but never did like the look of it. Plus besides the corals, the tanks main inhabitants are the pair of blue striped cinnamon clowns living in the bubble coral. Sooner than later, she was going to start kicking up sand. I figured as its her tank, may as well make it so.:D She seems to approve of the bare bottom & rubble.

Before the move, I sold many corals, plus all the sandbed creatures, including a pair of prawn gobies.

I wont have to worry about the loss of nitrate removal or other filtration benefits of the sandbed, as I hope the ATS picks up the slack.

The tank is filtered only by the scrubber. I removed the overflows, so there is no sump. I am using 800 powerheads as seen in the pic to assist the surge, for now. Its lit with a 400w 12K Sunburst over the center. I pair of 40w normal output sits on each side. They have the GE 65K Ultra bulbs in them.

I use kalk, and some ESV 2-part for now, but will be maintained by my Geo reactor, when its running. Its a single stage. 2ft by 5 in reactor.

All of my corals are from Exotic Aquatics or from Jayson at Saltwater Connection, both in Winnipeg. Actually it was Stephanes pics that brought me here and reading Jaysons posts that convinced me to register. Most of the corals and all the clowns are fragged or propagated by others. The lps are wild, but the cup coral has been fragged before.

Yeah Stephane...I figured that while I'm payin for space and bandwidth...I might as well make it easy & fun for everyone.

If we get to the server abuse levels that RC obtains...then this may have to change...but I can't see that happening in the near future! ;) - So ENJOY!!

Again...

Welcome to all the new people...and keep the info/pics/questions coming!

Doug... I just read the post @ RC :( Sorry to hear about your loss! Your new system is looking mighty fine so 'onward-bound' and the best of luck to you!!

You may be interested in knowing that we are now offering Walt Smith's NEW Aquacultured corals!!! We are also starting a coral Fragging program to allow us to offer our own frags from aquacultured colonies too! All of our clams are aquacultured too! We are looking into being able to import even more in the way of captive breed/raised fish as well. There are some places that are doing some amazing things with fish...it's just a matter of paperwork and price to get them here too!!!

Support the natural reefs & oceans...buy AQUACULTURED!!

:D Good luck to all!!!

:embarrase Guess I should read the sponsers web page before mentioning other retailers. Sorry AJ.:embarrase

Its good to see all the aquacultered stock now available to us. My problem is living away from a major airport.

Thanks for the kind words AJ. That was some move. Take so much care & then boom. I have moved tanks many times, the last one before being from Thompson, 500 miles south. Never a loss. But I also never had clams before.

No problem Doug - there is plenty of room for us all...especially the ones that are making a difference in the industry. I don't have a problem mentioning other re/E-taillers...just no commercial advertisements. :)

If you can get into the 'city' once and a while...you can just pick it all up at the some time! You place a big enough order...I'll rent the UHAUL and deliver everything for ya! :D

Just the truth. Beautiful tank! I DREAD moving my tanks - especially the new 220Gal - :eek1: :eek2:

I don't even want to consider the coral/frag stocking level this new 220 will have...Lucky for me, I have no corals in my personal tanks right now due to the antisipation of relocating to the new tank! Now comes the fun of trying to make it actually look like there is SOMETHING in that VAST open space (8ftx2ftx2ft - is a LOT of room to fill)!!! :D

AJ, have you ever considered the bus lines for same day delivery to non airport locations, at least for the places they go to in one day?

Flatlander

Thats what we use here. Everything that came to Thompson from Winnipeg, came by bus. They carried it inside, but it costs double the normal freight.

Hey Stephane; You could write some in french.:) Although I have trouble reading it, I can converse somewhat. That comes after 30 years in Thompson, with most of my closest friends coming from Quebec.

Ok, here it is. After the move, I set up the 170 with all new water. I spent all day moving rock & corals & the few fish I have. As many of the sps had to be removed alone, as they were encrusted to more than one rock, they had to be re-attached.

I used a common 2-part epoxy, made for aquarium use, for this purpose. AsI had many corals to do, I used most of a tube for this purpose. Its seems very rank to me. As it was late in the day, and I figured all the live rock was enough filtration for the low bio-load, I never moved the ATS that night.

What a stink the next morning. The clams were on their way out & taking the tank with it. All the acros were bleached, { that fast}I was running carbon in a hangy filter also.

So the million dollar question is:confused: Was it the use of to much epoxy, {without a skimmer running}, or was it the clams reaction to the new tank water, which by the way, matched the old water in every way?

Hi Doug,

I haven't used the 2 part epoxy on anything yet.

Does it have a warning (conditions to use under or how much) or anything on the label?

Well it's good you are making a come back but it must have been heartbreaking.

Flatlander

I never seen any type of warning. Checked it a few times, esp after. Supposed to be reef safe, but its the only thing different I did, that I never in he past.

It also could be the clams reaction to the new water as some think, but you would have a hard time getting me to go along with that one.

However as neither theory can be proved and it would not be fair to the maker of the 2-part, I wont name them nor put any blame on them alone.

Its just a darn shame. My derasa,s were over 7 inches and the crocea had doubled in size almost, in the year I had it.

Doug,
Welcome a"board" :)
I kill me sometimes. Sorry it took me so long to say HELLO
That two part epoxy doesn't "stick" very well, per se. Best to use as a type of wedging material. Once it does harden thoroughly it's as tough as nails.

Hello Dman, I usually only use ZapGel for all my frags, but since I had some unusual places to put them & some large pieces, I decided to try the 2-part.

Many years ago, I used a lot of the 2-part sold by Two Little Fishies. Should have stuck,{:) now there,s a play on words}, with that product, as I never had a problem with it. But then my skimmer was always running also.
