I just looked at my tank water and it seems to be greenish

I them just happened to dip a styrofoam cup in to take some water for testing and I noticed that the cup colour had changed to light greenish/brown I also se vry fine particles in the water

My skimmer seems to be working because if I just put my hand in the tank it seems to pick up on it and starts to give skimmate

what can this be ?

I do add phyto to the tank but never enough to cause this

(5 Ml twice a week)

I do regular waterchanges

My corals and fish seem to be doing great, Tons and tons of lil insects and stuff around at night , all my Shrimp, crabs seem to be doing great as well

what is this stuff, I can't seem to clear it up with waterchanges

(40% so far and it seem to be getting denser

It's probably algae I had it and its best to say water changes may contribute to it check for phosphates

The only way I got rid of mine was to use an all natural pond clarifier an old guy around my neighborhood gave me . Said it would harm fish , he wouldnt tell me what was in it . Later his partner told me its the same stuff sold in stores

BertCMG - As Mpleleaf said if the water you're using to do changes with isn't very good it will worsen your algae problem. Make sure it's RO and make sure the container you mix the salt/RO in isn't leaching Phosphates (as AJ has mentioned in the past). Do a quick water test on the water before you add it to the tank.

My neighbor had some green water problems and I loant him my HOT 350 Micron Filter with some Diatomic Earth which seemed to clear it up pretty quick. He didn't need to use the Diatomic earth though.

See if there's someone in Good ole Montreal who will loan you a Diatom filter..

Thansk guys but here some more info

I did the round of tests and so far I have come up way under normal levels for Phosphates and nitrates

The water I am using is DI water with a TDS reading of 0

I don't have a algae problem because I have a ton of macro frowing like crazy and it seems to suckup all most all of the available nutrients

I looked under a lil microscope and I tons of stiff moving around in there

I have put a polyfilter to suckup any more PH ( just in case my test kit is ad )

So far that all I got

Try a flame scallop. They make lousy pets, they're naturally short-lived and will starve w/o nutrient rich water, but I have heard of them polishing up some filthy tanks in a few days.

Sounds like a great environment to add rotifers to. Not only will they clean up thje algae, but they are a natural foodstuff for almost all of your corals.
