Is there anyone out there in the greater toronto area that has a plywood based tank that they've built themselves?
I'm thinking about the dream 12ft'r tank and would like to see a plywood tank with my own eyes.
Also, when you build tanks that large, do you have to worry more about the amount of evaporation? This would be in a basement if I ever did it. Are there other concerns that I wouldn't think much about on a 4 ft. tank but that I would have to think about on a 12ft tank?
Oh and does anyone have a mortgage calculator handy? I need to figure out what mortgage I'm going to need just to finance the rock.

Interesting question
There is a guy ( i believe a doctor) on RC is working with a lot of plywood tank, goes into detail as to how to construct (almost anal) I will try to find you the link.
as to the evap.. not too sure , I did some research , my 175 was loosing about 5 gallons a day, I wanted 300gallons of sumps, (now installed) and am looking to have a 350 to 400 gal custom built.
I dropped into a heating and air conditioning place, was told that in a 2500 sq ft house a typical humidifier would get rid of 16 gallons a day.
sounded high to me, however I turned off my humidifier (actually stole the motor for a project) and the floors in the basement still squeaked a little, this tells me I still needed more humid air.
today I see a little condensate on the patio doors, first time for that.
as to the Mortgage on the live rock.. you dont need a calculator, they dont go that high... you are on your own there.
keep us posted on the plywood tank though.

if you are going to build a tank, why not build all your own rock too?
I have been very successful in building aragocrete rock myself and have a bunch in my tank and in my friends 175 bow front.
if you want, i can share a few techniques with you on how to do it....pm me if you want.

As for concerns
I would say floor load
a 12 Ft tank filled up is like parking a SUV on the floor better make sure

Yes floor load is an issue, the basement floor would have to be solid, thick, no cracks, and I don't think you'd want it too close to the footing of your foundation.
