Hey everybody! I thought I'd post a pic of my new clams! A blue crocea (4-5") and a tiny gold maxima (1.5"). This pic was taken just about 1/2 hr after acclimatizing them and putting them in the tank. One question I have, however, is it normal for them to be gaping so much right after putting them in the tank? Thanks!

Mikey, LOOKING BEAUTIFUL!..
Clams will Gap like this when they are stressed. and concidering you just put them in i would say they are stressed!.. So give them some time.... The mantels are out so thats a good sign!

Thanks Mike! That's what I figured. But seeing my new clams stressed kind of stresses me too! Very nice selection of clams at ORG right now. The pic doesn't really do them justice - I'm no competition for Mitchell yet! You can even see the reflection of the lens in the tank!

Your clams look good' sometimes it normal for them to gape.
I hope you dripped them in on a very slow drip . I find that
on our clam shippments a very slow drip, does not stress out the clams and they gape less.

Thanks Dee! I floated them for about an hour to equalize the temperature and then dripped them for half an hour or so. I think I should've dripped them longer, but hopefully they'll be okay.

Hey Mike nice Clams, they look good to me just like mentioned above they could be little stressed due to being in new environment for just few hours... Good purchase, Clams are cool.

Thanks Red-Sea! I've been looking forward to getting the clams for quite a while. The small maxima has stopped gaping, but the crocea still is... hopefully it will relax soon.

Croceas tend to gape more than maximas. They are more sensitive clams.

Thanks guys! The clams are doing quite well. The maxima is looking great, the crocea isn't gaping anymore, but the mantle extension isn't quite what I'd like to see. The picture above was taken a month ago. Here's a more recent one

Here's a top-down picture of them- unfortunately, the actinics really messed up the colours. I suppose I have to adjust the white balance, somehow. The crocea is an intense teal colour viewed from the top.
