soo correct me if im wrong but it looks to me that MACL has faded into the dust...
i just though id post this to see what the status of the club is, and to see exactly who is intrest in getting some sort of meetings started up in london again
i know there are many reefers in london, the only problem seems to be finding a good time for everyone

You are correct the club has all but disappeared. I think the first priority should be notifying the former members and resuming membership. As far as the meetings go I think if some of the LFS would support the club by offering gift certificates or prizes and of course the usual frag swaps there should be decent numbers.
A big problem I had in the past was with setting up meetings. There would be too much emphasis on what day worked for who and the dates would get bounced around to the point you had no clue what day it was actually going to be held. I think the dates should have just been set and the fact accepted that not everyone is able to make it (although some door prizes might make missing your sisters wedding, or family reunion, worth the scowls of disapproval from family members). Just my .02!

Hi Shawn
I agree it would be nice to get something going again....
Like Shayneh said it was hard to set meetings up for everyone's schedule but once the date is made so be it. Maybe thecoalreef Mike has a list of the members we could mass email?
Glad to see we still have some MACL interest.
Cheers

I believe I still have a list of members emails...it seems we all still have an interest in getting together, all we need is someone willing to take the reigns...
One thing I would point out is that getting a stable meeting place was always a pain. Everyone wanted to be a member, but never wanted to volunteer their homes for a meeting (too small, tank issues, etc) - I had 4 meetings in St Thomas (3 in my home and one in the daycare) which ranged in members from 3 to almost 30 in the daycare. I think "home shows" are nice as a treat, but a standard meeting place might be a good idea.
Just my opinion, and if anyone wants the email addresses, please let me know.

Personally I attended many of the meetings as much to talk to members but also for the opportunity to see other setups. If we do them at a standard location (some meeting room/hall) then I think there will need to be something to draw people in such as organized presentations/speakers/demonstrations etc. Which is even harder to organize.
I would be interested in attending.

Rob, I agree with you entirely, but that seemed to be one issue that the old group had, finding people to open up their homes. I like the show and tell side (My wife wasn't such a fan :))

You guys could also look at doing a joint club with the London Aquaria society. They meet every second tuesday of the month. This might be something to consider and it could improve the saltwater number around london as well. Most of the freshies like saltwater tank but think they are too hard to manage and they cost a lot more money. Have the support of other salt water members could help them out as far as trading and the salt water member can unload a lot of older equipment you have just lying around.

Im glad there is still an interest in getting something together!
i agree with the suggestions of set dates and if you miss it.... too bad.
I agree with Mark having a meeting place like a confrence room would be much easyer and we dont have to worry about who is going to host the next meeting, but on the other hand it does take away from seeing other setups as shipwreck said. i for one would host the meeting however i doubt my parents whould be open to the idea (im a student living at home) we do need someone to take up a Lead position, any takers? im in school year round so ill have to step back on this one
None the less if we dont end up getting a organized club together this summer ill take charge and host a frag swap/BBQ :)

Hey Mark,
If you have it at your place and I can make it, I'd love to see how your tank is progressing.

Seth, you know from the past that my place is always available for these gatherings (or if anyone is ever coming through St Thomas and want to come by for a visit, more than welcome)
I couldn't do anything until May (remember I am an accountant) but after then, I'd be game...although my tank has turned into mostly a FOWLER with a few corals tank at present since I have become extremely lazy.

I had a great time with the club when we had it running. Unfortunately I am finishing up school and will be leaving London in June. Due to the circumstances of moving and having a baby, I will be selling my setup and taking a break for a few years. Wish you guys all the best in starting the club back up!
Tim
