I have a toad stool leather coral that has small holes in the tips of it and it seems to be spliting off pieces where the holes are.. I can't see any visual signs of bugs or worms or anything... I looked late at night with the Red viewing lights on and still nothing to be seen.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Maplereef,
whoo that sounds really bizzare, maybe a parasite or something along thoughs lines working it's way from the inside out.
Have you tried a fresh water dip ?

You take the pieces that split off, and place them in a juice glass with reef rubble in the bottom and after a week or two the pieces attach to the rubble and then you crazy glue gel the reef rubble to a larger rock and let the piece grow into a new coral.

I have one 2 but have not had it very long, I have heard of fresh water dips and they seem a pretty safe way of getting rid of unwanted critters but is the coral just propigating itself?
AJ I have heard of the iodine treatment to but never looked for lugos in Canada before though, who sells it?
Hope ya don't mind me asking maplereef, I have not seen one do this before but if mine does it never hurts to have a back up plan.

Well, not having seen it I'm going on description and that sounds like mine when it propagates itself.
And, by the way, I don't mind you asking anyone anything at anytime. That is how you learn. I don't do a lot of asking so I do a lot of reading what others ask and usually have my questions answered that way.

Thanks for the replies guys!!!!!!!!!
I did do a fresh water dip late at night as i read in the Jullian sprung book Vol 1... seems these little worms or bugs hide inside during the day so a dip late at night seems to be more efficient..
A few months ago i thought the coral was dying and thats when i did a dip... It worked great and the coral came back to life :); The holes in it are back but the coral is still happy so i think its self propagationat this point..
I did read that some corals will do this if they feel threatened to keep the spices living on...way cool EH?...
I took a sharp razor blade and cut of some pieces taking the little hole with the cutting and just clued the pieces to another rock... WOW... they are growing like crazy...It won't be long and i will have to many of these guys in my tank.. not a bad problem if you ask me..
I just ordered a new 5ft Klaes skimmer for my tank.I am looking forward to this new skimmer.. I have a spare upgraded berlin clasic and a 50 gal tank that i would like to start Sea Horses.. Any idea what they are like to raise?...(wifes idea...lol.)
AJ... I have not seen this product but it looks like it would be good to have on hand cause you never know when you need such a thing
Thanks again guys..
Have a good one
