Well this will be the 3rd xmas for my tank, so I decided to take some pictures and post them....not the best photography.
Its a 75G, lit with 2x250W 10k Ushios with 2x40 actinic supplement. 4 inch DSB made with southdown. Mostly sps, as most of the softies I have moved to my FO tank, there are a few zoo's and shrooms. And I love those froggies and hammers.
The tank is designed as a no fuss maintaince objective, as I am always out of town, so I rely on a fish-sitter about half of the year. So I am very amazed that it has stood up after 3 years with minimal dieoffs. The only thing I does is for calcium. If I am in town, I dose kalk made from pickeling lime. When I am out of town, my fish-sitter will does Bionic A&B. Started dosing phyto's about 1 year ago.
Very little fish in the reef, 1 yellow tang, and 2 percs. I plan on adding couple of fish, looking for a healthy copper band butterfly, as well as a manadrin goby. The goby could help control the pod population.

Here is the front of the tank:

Very nice Commie.

Its great to see such a thriving tank, using some "against the grain" husbandry techniques eg...pickling lime and southdown!!!

Happy Birthday to the reef

Is that right Commie, you use pickling lime. I can't find any in To, where do you get it?

Fishlip,

You can't buy pickeling lime in Canada. Its against the health standards in canada. I bought them at Walmart across the niagara falls border.
But there are a lot of people in SWO buying medical grades and agriculture from feed stores.
Works like a charm.

Thanks for the info Commie. I've been asking people on and off for over a year now. I'm in the US every month, I wonder if there is anything against taking it carry on in a plane? :)

Fishlips,
Nope nothing against taking it on the airplane. There is two major brands of pickeling lime.
Balls which comes in a nice 1 lb can sells for about $1.80 USD
and Mrs. Wages which is in a 1lb bag.
They will be in the canning department at walmarts.

NICE TANK!!! As far as the pickling lime goes I couldn't find it anywhere here either. Now I know why. I've heard that Mrs. Wages is more pure and that Balls has trace amounts of metals. If anyone needs Kalwasser HARK from this site usually has some in stock. I think he sells five pounds for around twenty dollars.
