Hey guys, I've recently discovered one of my hermit crabs has mutated lol. Anyone know what type this one is, and what I should do with it? (leave it be, put in sump, take to pet store) :)

More like Hermit in a big picture !
Thats particular to that species of hermit (name escapes me) I don't think it mutated, just grew back a large claw that it dropped. I had two or three of them in my sump, which is where you should be dropping all you hermit crabs. IMO, except for maybe a few scarlets... Also, why does the shell look like something I would find for sale at Pier One in a twine sac ? Looks like a decoration !

lol, I realize its not a mutant :P however its the only one that grew super fast, and is the only one with a big claw. as far as the shell goes..no clue, my buddy at the pet store gave me a bunch, and that was one of them, it has since changed shells. I have a couple blue leg, and a couple scarlet in my display. back when I added them, this one looked like a scarlet as well.

Like that other guy said, it looks like a species that used to be sold in pets stores but I haven't seen them in a while. I used to have a bunch and they did grow all lot bigger than most common species. They never gave me any trouble, I think they exhibit sexual dimorphism and I think it's the males that get the big claw and the females don't (in case you cared).

I'd throw that sucker in the sump, once they get big enough to inhabit shells it's time to remove them from the display, they'll just hunt down your snails and take their shell
