Hey im going to start dosing kalk in my new 24 gallon sps only tank this will be my first experience with the stuff in 4 years of reefing lol
i have a few questions to all you experts out there , is it ok to use those homemade drip bottles you see on reef central etc ? or is a store bought reactor better ? what are the pros and cons of using kalk and what do i need to watch out for or be careful with , any help and advice would be great
thanks

Everyone has their own preferences and I suspect all work or they wouldn't be doing it.
However, in my case, finances dictate how I dose so I mix up the limewater in empty salt pails using 2 teaspoons per gallon of water.
I let it sit sealed for a day and siphon off what I need to add to my tanks, leaving the bottom crap to be disposed of.
For tanks with a sump, I put an appropriately sized container above the sump and use air line tubing to siphon the limewater into the sump at night after lights have been out an hour or more.
For tanks without a sump, I siphon into a high flow area to disperse the high pH rapidly.
I add enough limewater every night to every tank to equal the amount of evaporation each tank has each day and it varies with time of year/humidity/temperature in the home.
If I need to add more calcium/magnesium/alk, then I use Randy Holmes-Farleys DIY replacement mixes.
