View Full Version : R/O Shut-off question.

I just recently ordered a Kent R/O shut-off kit only to find once it arrived that it's rated for 10-60 gpd units. Mine produces 100 gpd. Will the shut-off function with the increased flow or will it affect my RODI unit's capability to function properly...such as reduced flow or lower quality of product water?

I don't want to experiment as I can only return the shut-off unused and in original package.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Kev

It will likely reduce your back-pressure a bit...and thus confuse the RO membrane a bit. The flow restrictor usually sets the back-pressure...and with the increased back-pressure using this auto-shut-off, you will likely get a small reduction in either RO quality or GPD production.

Damn, I was afraid of that. Is there a shut-off rated for 100+ gpd units?

Thanks,
Kev

The ones that I bring in are diaphram driven - so they aren't specifically GPD rated (varies based on pressure). I used one on my RO/DI unit (200GPD) for over a year with no issues at all.

The dual diaphragm design of these WQA validated valves provide automatic shut-off to supply line when storage tank reaches 65% of inlet pressure, saving thousands of gallons of water per year.

The automatic shut-off valve sends water through the water filter when there is demand from a storage tank or float valve. When the back pressure drops, the valve is activated and water is allowed to flow through the water filter to the storage tank or float valve. When the pressure tank or storage tank is full, the pressure in the line signals the valve to shut off water flow through the filter.
This valve is diaphram driven so we strongly suggest a backflow preventor (included) with this unit
Install this unit after your prefilters to avoid dirt causing a malfunction.

Hope that this helps.
