I found this guy's discarded parts in the detritus after siphoning. Now I know where my shrimps went and it also explains the missing legs of my serpant star. (I knew it wasn't the power heads)
I know there's not much there but can anyone ID this guy....and suggest a way of getting rid of him.
I've never seen him and suspect he's been in my tank for years.
Thanks, MC

Well DblG you certainly ID'd it correctly because I just googled "hairy gorilla crab". A few months ago I actually found a black tipped claw but didn't think anything of it.
That's him. Thanks!
Now I just have to find a way to catch him.

your best bet is to look out for him at night thats when they like to do damage :D I had two in my tank I just recently removed

put a glass jar tilted up against a rock just enough to let it crawl in but to steep for it to crawl out , put a piece of tiger shrimp or fresh fish and attach it to a small rock with fishing line an set it in the jar . He will go in and hopefully not be able to get out , thats way you can just set the trap before you leave for the night and check in the morningb

Thanks Jennyfish. I'll try that and see if I catch the little bugger.
I hated losing those expensive shrimps!!!
