Here are two bad pics of my new clam. Its on a piece of shell already. Its vary small so I could not resist it. I have placed it in a shaded spot for now. Can clams move at all? How fast do they grow and when it does will it end up attached to the rock its on? Sorry the pic is hard to see, coraline algae is a pain. Any tips that may help me with this clam are appreciated.

Looks likea a pretty nice Crocea.
Smaller clams (<2") need to be fed, so you might want to take that into consideration.

Yes a crocea. It can borrow and attach into rock. They dont grow very fast and get to be max 6". They also appreciate fairly high light.

What do you recommend feeding it? It is larger than 2". How long should I wait to put in full light? I have frozen brine a cyclop-eze will that be good for it?

Liquid food ... I would highly recommend Nutra Kol.

Getting a clam was a bad idea. It turned in to an all you can eat buffet for my cleaner shrimp. I did not have it 24 hours and its dead. $40 in the trash.:boohoo::rip:

what?? in that picture it looks healthy. Did the foot get teared off or something? I would remove the clam...they have a lot of flesh that will pollute your tank.

You sure it was the cleaner shrimp? Usually the cleaner shrimp will eat it AFTER it dies, so pretty sure something else killed it.

No it was the shrimp he sat on it picking and eating the flesh until it was dead. By the time I seen it and removed the shrimp it was too late.

Maybe I should turn the shrimp in to fish food!

+1 haven't heard of shrimp killing a clam. It's often a nipping fish such as a dwarf angel. Anyway, it's a shame - it was a beautiful clam.

It would be very rare for a cleaner shrimp to cause the clam's death unless maybe if it is very, very hungry.
Check if your tank has pyramid or whelk snail. It can easily kill a healthy clam. Cleaner shrimp, eunicid/bristle worm, crab, etc. will feast on a dying/dead clam.
Anyway, sorry for your loss.

Maybe my shrimp is hungrier than I think he is? I can try feeding him more? I want a clam but don't want to risk the life of another one? He definitely was eating it. He ate a hole in it and then picked at the insides. When the clam closed the shrimp just waited for it to open.
