Hi AP members:)
This basically ties into the skimmer thread and that is, with a refudge do you even need a skimmer and also would setting one up using the M mud be the way to go over just sand for a refudge?
If a skimmer was used would you be exporting food and minerals say for the refudge ?
Skimmer <--> refudge
Working against each other?
Inquiring minds want to know?

Definetely go with both. what substrate you use in your fudge will be dependent on what type of corals you plan on having in your main tank.

Hi Jayson,
So if I use mud rather than sand in the sump, would this be different for other corals than if I used sand only?
or if I used a combination of both, mixed with the sea grass and macro?
ie A layer of mud and a thinner layer of sand on top then root the sea grass and macro
If I use a skimmer would this pull to much out of the water/fudge and also if the mud had added trace elements/minerals in it?
Defeating the point of the fudge and a more natural way of export?

I might have not been as clear in my responce. Sand grain size ormud will grow different animals easier than other types. Which types of corals you have in your main tank should be the basis for your decision of sand or mud. The algaes that you grow in your fudge will also make a difference. you have to decide on what type of corals you wish to keep. i hope this helps.

I agree with Jayson...
Going with both will definitely be your best solution.
However...the choice of MMud or DSB is only a personal preference. I personally will be using a DSB in the new 220Gal tank, and be running the MMud in the refugium. I will also be running a skimmer (12 hours/day).
Decisions, decisions - :D
Ain't this hobby great?!?!

Hi Aj
What do you think of a thin layer of sand over the mud in the sump/fudge say an 1/8 or 1/4"?

Yes, that was the route I was thinking of going, I have a 6" DSB in the tank now :)
Do you sell just the MMud?
also do you sell a critter kit for the DSB, I have some worms and dusters in the DSB already but it never hurts to have more.

^^^^^-----I don't really think that it would be productive to do this. The Miracle Mud is designed to do a certain job...and IMO - changing its set-up wold only cause it problems to do this job. This is why I am going to run the DSB in the display tank, and the MM in the refugium - get the benefits of BOTH at the same time!

^^^^^-----As I pointed out above...best of both worlds!

^^^^^-----we do!! It comes in 5lb and 10lb bags.
5lbs - $64.99
10lbs - $119.00

^^^^^-----We will be offering "kits" - same as what IPSF offers in the states. Our conditioning tanks aren't finished yet...but should be very soon!

Hope this helps.... :D
