Hi there,

Here is my 20g mini reef after approx 12 months. Everything is growing like crazy... All corals I have grew from timy frags. My apologies for the large images but they have all actually been reduced from the originals.

I think you have flat worms?

You're right... I didn't know what it was for a long time. Looks like I might stop by the fish store tomorrow and pick up a 6 line Wrasse or something along those lines... They are know to take care of flatworms.

Where are the flatworms in thepics? Just wondering how you could tell.

If you look at the hermit crab you will see a bunch of small brown flat pieces on the gravel... these are the flatworms. You will also see them on the big picture.

The quantity seems to have leveled off but I still need to attack it to get it removed.

Where do they come from? Do they multiply quickly ? What damage do they do?

Liam, I am not sure as I have never had flat worms (touch wood)
and only recently found out about them a few months ago...

Doug Lowrey on here has some insight on them if youwish
to drop him a pm etc...he should be able to answer some questions on them....

I would be surprised if a six line wrasse was the answer to those.

Good luck,

Tim
p.s. there is 2 products that will kill them but you need to be
careful with the aftermath of their dead bodies contaminating
tank afterwards..I think the idea is to siphon out as many as possible before using either of the treatments.....check into it...as I really am not 100% sure.

Speak to either Doug Lowey or afss (both on these forums) about treatment for flatworms.

Also do a search for them in the AquariumPros.ca search for more documented info.

HTH & good luck!!

I think you also have some aptasia on sume of the rocks.. Squirt some vinegar to get rid of them.

Yup - I also have some aptasia... I have been 'controlling' them with syringes of lemon juice. I guess they spread a bit before my treatment. They are getting more scarse however although I need to treat them again...

I don't think the 6-line wrasse will work that great either.. I heard that a Velvet Nudibranch is probably the best bet in live stock but not even sure if they can be bought around here (Toronto area). I'm not sure how useful (or reef unfriendly) one of these can be though...
