I am hosting a meeting for the Barrie Reef Club on Sept 26th at 4pm.

The sky can cave in and the meeting is ON.

Key members cannot make it ? Sorry...the meeting is on....catch the next one....

Barbeque will be provided including food and soft drink provided.

We will be checking out my 280 gallon that I am extremely excited about and proud of
and I have a few other surprises in store for you to make it fun.

I am asking that everyone pay $5 as a donation that day to AP... I love this board
and I believe we truly need to help support it... Not to mention the fact that ALL of us
have a KEY CONTACT in Hawaii named AJ we can visit hahahahaha....I am sure he would
be happy to give us a run down on reef excitement in that area if we visit that area....
Can we not help him out with the expense of the board>? I say YES and I hope you
agree...if you dont...I am surely up for a damn good argument hahahaha

Lets have fun....26th 4pm...be there or be at the next one.

I hope to see all of you.....the last meeting at Russ' place was fantastic...thanks again for your incredible hospitality Russ..I hope to match it at this meeting.

REEFS ROCK!

I am new to the hobby and interested in learning more from people with experience. I was curious on how to join the Barrie club as I live in Alliston. If you could help me out or put me in contact with the right person I would appreciate it.

Colin, another member of the Reef Club that is very excited and has a passion for the hobby
that I recommend you contact asap is a fellow named DANA...his nick on here is DANA also...
Dana revived the club this year and is responsible for getting it going again! He also has a
gorgeous display tank that he loves to show off....it is 150 gallon.....get in touch with him
and I am sure he will be happy to talk reef with you and show you his tank.... Recently a
group meeting was at his place so it might be a while before the next meet is at his place so...don't wait for it......send him a PM is what I recommend to you in the meantime while
you are waiting to come to the Sept 26th meet. He lives in Wasaga Beach very close to

Ya..we will not lose the drive I don't think......between myself and Dana and Russ and a few others...there is a very good core of reef die hards that will not let it slide......we just needed someone to kick out of stall mode and Dana did it....his fresh passion for the hobby
is like OXYGEN for some of the vet hobbiests....

Nice meeting you Kenny!

see you again,,,,,,the tank will be pretty neat when it is stocked yes..and I am going to have an absolute RIOT stocking it.....

decisions decisions though......sooooooooooooo many choices.....and compatibility must be considered closely..... I want some fairy wrasses in there this time but I know bugger all about them..never kept them so I have some homework to do... Two fish guaranteed are powder blue and sohal tang...those are gimmes for me.... Desjardini Tang I have never owned and they have caught my eye in the past couple of years though when I first saw them I did not get a rise out of them due to lack of colour but their huge fins unfolding and their personality and mannerism in the tanks I have seen them in has caught my eye....
Purple tang a must...maybe 3 yellows.... and a pair of crosshatch triggers DONE with the bigger fish I am thinking so far.... then a bunch of sand dwellers etc.... maybbeee a red hawk..they are kinda neat..not sure.....defiitely a purple orchid...I love them.....clams....thats about it that I can think of off hand that I am probably putting in.
Maybe a Kole Tang...Again never used to like them but the last one I owned was so neat i the tank always grazing away doing it's job......and a prize pair of clownfish for sure....gotta have em....probably onyx.....maybe solomon island......not 100% sure on that.....more research to do.

Corals will be a ton of hammers, torches, frogspawns, blastos, ricordeas, zoos, brains, lobos, acans, ...and....some sps if I get the courage to keep them.... Right now SPS scare me....when they go downhill it is so fast you cannot react and savethem.... they literally can kick bucket in a few hours....
scary corals to keep....at 70bux a pop or more a nice one.....but...my tank is set up to handle SPS so I will be getting into them..wish me luck! gonna need it on those.

Just to throw it out, when I first started my 90 many years ago (disclamer for the tang police :lolol:) I had tried two yellow tangs with the recomendation of the LFS I was dealing with. What I nightmare for the first few days all was peace full then all hell broke loose. now a 280 will be different but just feel Yellows can and will be aggressive.

I have keep both Naso (my favorite) very friendly and Sailfin (Desjardini) beautiful fish when the fin's are displayed. I feel these two tangs are very laid back and make good tank mates. both the Naso and Sailfin would eat out of my hand.

Some times it is really a crap shoot how it will go mixing tangs, but a 280 will make a big difference.

the rule with yellow tangs I heard in the past (dont know if true) is
you put in 1 or 3 or more...never two......

I will possibly be putting 3 in...not sure...dont want toooo high bioload so might only go with 1.....dont want to overcrowd the tank.....even an 8footer can be crowded......

I had 3 yellow tangs with alot of other fish in a 180 (my first reef) and absolutely never a problem with the yellows...but I have heard many people have had really aggressive ones....

I guess if you get an irish one you are in trouble..they fight like blazes!
