Hey everyone, so i'm just now reallying getting into SPS, i have 2 montis right now and plan to add more sps in the near and distant future. So i am curious how does everyone keep there sps healthy and happy, I also want to see everyone's favourite piece of sps that they have:)
Here is mine it is my orange montipora, if someone could identify the species of it i would be very appreciative.....I keep it under 2 400w 20K xms and well that is pretty well it:) I don't add any calcium or anything and i see great growth out of it:)

Could be Digitata. Looks like it's starting to branch and it is a fast growing monti.

Since i don't add any trace or calcium...i would say very fast, i see about 1/4" to 1/2" a month on average i think if i did those things and had a lower K bulb i think i would see much faster growth but i am very happy with the growth i see with my sps, zoas and other corals, sps and zoas grow the best for me

so....any sps out there?? lol....come on guys and gals i know some of you have some wicked sps, please post them, i'm now starting to get serious into sps, 4 pieces now :woohoo:
so i'm looking for what you think is the best/your favourite, heck it doesn't even have to be yours, just an SPS that you have seen lol
So pics and if you can also post if it is yours: the growth rate, species name, type of lighting, level of calcium, flow rate, and finally last but not least, were you got it ;) lol
I'm trying to find which places consistently have the best sps, so far i like RR and ORG but, i'm waiting for others inputs....where do you find all these gems:)
PLEASE! let me know:)

Ive had some nice SPS from both of those stores. A lot of the nicest will come from hobbiests though so keep watching the classifieds, and of course the other sponsors.
Most Montis are fairly easy and fast growers but this will start to diminish your Calcium levels - more quickly as the colonies grow (pretty much exponentialy). Birdsnest and acropora are also fast growing given the right conditions. Im a big fan of A. Formosa and similar Acropora for there dramatic size and shape , and they fill up a space very quickly. Again for these you really will need something to keep your Calcium/Alkalinity level adequate. You can do it through excessively large or frequent water changing but that may become a bit of a chore.
I could do with an updated image as this is about 6 months old and its been moved and grown a lot, but this is my favourite:

and give it a while - your monti will likely look like this
