Checking out the hermit crab. At first, I thought she was fascinated by the bright red colour of my scarlet hermit, but somebody suggested she may have been sizing the crab up for dinner! :eek1:

Mary how much rock do you have in the tank?

Jsut wondering how much you need with a couple of ponies.. are they very dirty at all?

What im wondering... is ..

I ahve a 30 G tall tank about about 15-20 pounds of rock to spare.. and was wondering if it would work for a couple of horses..

not sure..

I've only got about 20 lbs in there right now, but I'm stripping the whole tank down. Don't know if you saw my post about hydroids. :( Pesky things!

I'm taking the rock and caulerpa right out and will only be leaving the DSB in there. I will be putting in 2 or 3 bright fake corals for hitching purposes and for colour.

BUT... my SH tank is plumbed into my whole system, so I've got the benefit of a DSB in my 72g, in my ref, and in the SH tank, as well as LR in my 72g and ref (approx 100 lbs total), as well as tons of caulerpa in my ref, and my HSA1000 skimmer.

Yes, SHs are very messy! The food (frozen mysis) is messy, and because they have no stomachs, they are constantly hunting and eating, and that means constantly polluting the water. And their poop is HUGE! I couldn't believe it when I first saw it!

Definitely a SH tank is a "high nutrient" tank with low circulation requirements... could be a lot of work to keep the nuisance algae at bay. I've been fighting cyano, but I think I'm winning the battle finally. :D

Thanks Paul. And no cyano because these are earlier pics. I try to keep my disgraceful pics to a minimum! :P LOL
