Picked this coral up in a bulk purchase from a tear down. I know it is some sort of SPS but no idea what species and therefore light and food requirements.

I have it sitting at the bottom of the tank right now, so some help ID'ing will let me move it up the tank.

Looks very similar to an encrusting Tubastrea sp. aka Sun Coral .... or Yellow Scroll coral .... IMHO.

I think it is a turbinaria reformis. Or cup coral or scroll coral. Never heard it being called sun coral but you never know (so many names). Most people consider it an LPS coral but these are just names us hobbyist use.

You should see yellow polyp extension and a plating formation. It can use good lighting and flow.

ditto on the scroll coral ID...although a proper observation on the polyp/feeler structure should firm it up....echinos have a long stinger or two extended at night...can't miss it..some as long as the coral itself.

Thanks folks. It does curve over on itself and is a plating coral. Tendrils haven't appeared yet but it's still getting used to the tank. So a positive ID is still a bit murky. I'll give it more light and try phyto, cyclopeeze and reefroids and see how it reacts.
