first off thanks for letting me join this site. i really enjoy reading all the advise and diy threads. Im from south carolina. its refreshing to hear some different theories from a different place in the world.
ok i finally got my tank straightened out all i have in it now is a fiji foxface, pink tail trigger i bought out of impulse, a small hamlet, and a damsel.
my wife wants a couple of sea horses and i told her that it was not a good idea. they would be harder to feed and maintain because they move slowly and do not compete well for food.
does anyone have any advise besides setting up another tank specifically for them?

def not going to work, the trigger is most likely going to nip it plus way to much comp for food

It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight, it will not work.

If the seahorses survived more than 2 days I'd be surprised. I don't even think they would get a chance to die from starvation, competing with the other fish for food would be the least of their worries.

Ya When i was getting into salt water i wanted to do the same thing then I learned from a breeder its a big no no, the fish will eat all the food on the sea horses before they even know there was some food,
its a big no no, they will die,
what you can do is just connect another 10-20 Gallon tank you can run it hooked up all to the same system just keep the fish and Sea horses in diffrent tanks

Keep in mind Sea Horses require there enviroment a little cooler then reefs so linking the systems may not be your best option. As well when shopping for tank size remember that they require height as much or more then they require width in a tank. Here is a link to site dedicated to Sea Horses (http://forum.seahorse.org/) and their relatives.

hy
as others have said it will not work.I tried in a 100 gl tank (seahorses only)
and it was too time cunsuming , get captive bred seahoeses.
I had to set up a 24gl nano just for the ponies and it is pony friendly
hanging branches ect. IT IS NOW A PLEASURE TO SEE THEM EAT FROM A SEASHELL
They are trained and are so easy to feed (allmost imposible before)
have your wife check out seahorses.org it has all the great info for yourself and
your wife
SEAHORSES ARE GREAT , THEY ARE , CUTE , BUT THEY ARE ALOT OF WORK!!!:hurray:
have no doubts about that and if you cannot dedicate the time save yourself the
trouble and get a screensaver:hihi:
