Mike congrats. looks like you found the right size tank at last.
Just a suggestion wouldn't be easier if you had put the tank on it's side standing up to clean before putting it on the stand and were there halides in that canopy previously because looks too shallow. :noevil:

November 9th, 2003, 06:28 PM
there where halides in there, 250's i think and VHos..
the tank is going to be cleaned out, i just put it in just to take a shot of it before i had to leave.. lol :)
But i really like the way it looks!.. Much nicer in person.. will try to get some more accurate shots of it when i get home !

November 9th, 2003, 11:51 PM
Alright,
So i stand corrected, This tank has allways run VHO never Halides.. Now im thinking i might just keep it that way as well, Was thinking about running 6x 110 VHO's thinking 2 actinics and 4 10ks
Currently i have filled the tank and did a water test.. Its looking good! no leaks that i can see yet! .. Looking good!
and i hooked up the one light so far.. I have a Electronic ballast 110 watts so i hooked up a AquaSun bulb.. Kind Pink for my likings.. but atleast its light :)
Pictures comming soon!
as you can see in this shot, the Wood colour is more a Cherry wood look..
and there is alot of coraline growth on the glass witch im not going to scrap off and see if it does not bleach and die..
http://extremereef.com/ExtremeAlbums/album04/CIMG0189.jpg
And then here you can see , running the single 110 Watt AquaSun VHO bulb.. kinda Pink for me ...

Well just spend the last 2 hours playing in myold 150G, Up to my Knees in dirty water.. The darn tank is soo big i cant cleaning it with out getting into it..
so i got the sand into the new tank, took out the left over rocks from the 150G and they are sitting in a rubber maid container just waiting on the water to clear up so i can level off the sand and put that rock in as base rock, about 60 pounds.
Here we go.. the Dirty tank :)
http://extremereef.com/ExtremeAlbums/album04/Dirty_tank.jpg
and here we have the 60-70 pounds of live rock, that i will use for the base of my reef.. got the good stuff ( 50 Pounds) in my 33G Long tank with the fish and corals.. :)

Looks good! Did you put the tank directly on top of styrofoam or did you put a sheet of plywood on top of the styrofoam.
Can't you tighten the bulkhead without draining the tank?
ScottM
November 11th, 2003, 09:05 AM
"take out the bulkhead and reseal the threads "
I'm thinking it's likely the gasket that's at fault...there's no need to use any kind of sealant on the threads of bulkheads...
Scott
Michael_Lambert
November 11th, 2003, 12:00 PM
I could not tighten the bulkhead.. Becouse the the way it goes is the stand.. 1 inch plywood then 1 inch Foam and tank.. so i could not reach the nut part of the bulkhead to tighten it.. So i had to drain the tank to lift it to get to it with my wrench..
Scott when i said seal it.. i just ment Nylon tape. .. It may not need it.. but i use it all the time anyways..
But its all done.. and starting to clear up.. Unfortunelty at the moment i can only run the one VHO bulb as i only have the one 110 watt electronic ballast..
alright,
Well i got the system all Plumbed in and running, Now this is a temp setup.. Untill i ge the tank cycled and running the way i want im going to be moving everything from my 33G tank into it and then im going to use that tank ( 36IN long) as the sump.. and i want to install the above tank refugium..

Well the Base rock is finally in the tank, Its a mix of all types of rock i have been accumulating over the years..
Once the tank finishes it cycle witch its doing now this base rock , then i will add in the other 50 pounds of good Fiji rock i have waiting to go in.
I'm cycling the tank by adding Food to the tank in a Filter bag, fairly large amount it was in there for 4 days before i first seen a big spike in Nitrates.. So now that i have that i added this base rock so now i will sit tight and wait for it to cycle!

Well here we go..
Got the tank finally after undercontrol.. after that cycle from what i dont know.. Im assuming the Base rock i picked up was not as dried out as i thought..
So i lost all my fish.. and no corals so im good there!.. But now a month later i got the tank under control everything is back to levels witch the tank needs to be at..
Nitrates, Nitrites, ammonia Zero
PH 8.2
Cal 470
DKH 12
Temp 79'
So here are some updated pictures.
This is a shot of the tank with all the lights running:

And here we go with just my actincs on:

Hey Mike,
Looks nice. Do yu have any closer pic of purple monti. I am curious about how it looks like after adding new lights

Sure thing,
My Tank still does not have enough light.. atleast not as much as i want.. i would like to see another 175 watt 10k Bulb put in..
Beocuse of the issues with WH7, I had to go from running 4 VHOs to only running 2VHos..
So right now this is what the monti looks like under the current lighting.
1x 175 watt 10 Ushio halide
1x 48 inch URI Actinic
1x 48 inch URI White actinic.
so here it is.. A Purple tipped brown montipora
kadaytar
January 7th, 2004, 10:30 PM
It looks better than the first one. I was keeping my purple monti very close to the bulbs. Whenever i kept it between actinic and 10K it was completely purple but when it was under 10K it was brownish. I think it likes actinics.

Do you lean the rocks against the back glass or are they glued or tied in any way?
TJ_Burton

Hey Toooloud, when your ready to give it up, I want your HAMMER lol!
Michael_Lambert
January 31st, 2004, 12:43 PM
TJ,
I'm stuborn... i never give up :)
psiico,
my Rock is all stacked ( Some marine putty) but find it does not work the best ... Some of it is leaning against the glass.. I really like having the SAND bed clear so i do it this way..
I had it once before setup away from the glass but found it lacked the room i wanted for sand bed corals and swimming room for fish, So i do like this setup much better.. I do have the one larger cave on the right side for the fish to hide in.. as well as there is plenty of room in the back of the rocks for fish to swim in.. but mainly leaves lots of open area in the front for swimming and Sand bed related Corals :)
psiico
January 31st, 2004, 04:33 PM
I was thinking of leaning mine against the glass, just to make room because my tank is somehwat small but I'd read somewhere it's not a good idea because of cleaning the glass. Any trouble there? I'm a little afraid to glue it because it seems so permanent. Drilling and tying is way too much trouble for me. Right now it's not a big deal because there is so little in there, but I plan to get more rock next week so I'm trying to plan.
Michael_Lambert
January 31st, 2004, 06:08 PM
Nope.. NO troubles at all.. you can see the glass is nice and clean.. I do use my Scraper once in a while. but thats it.
Myka
February 25th, 2004, 11:48 PM
Why do you want the back glass clean?
Michael_Lambert
February 26th, 2004, 07:01 AM
Myka,
I want the back glass covered with Coraline.. So i do clean the back glass.. of anything but coraline.. atleast try to.. for now i keep scraping the back glass of everything, Coraline included as it seems to help with seeding my rocks..
