I tried asking this on RC as well but my picture didn't work for some reason. I'll try asking here as well. I'd like an ID for a mystery fish I've had for nearly a year. I've never seen any damsel that closely resembles it, yet it was sold as a yellowtail. It DOES have the yellow tail, but isn't at all blue and has a different body shape and markings. I'll try to get the picture to work.http://www.geocities.com/covenant_reefer/Geb.html

OK, so it didn't work here either. If you think you can help and want to see my pic, try this link instead:

Thanks!

Convenant

When posting a picture, you have to link to the IMAGE and not the page.

You entered:
http://www.geocities.com/covenant_reefer/Geb.html
as the IMG link - with this result:
http://www.geocities.com/covenant_reefer/Geb.html

You should have entered:
http://www.geocities.com/covenant_reefer/geboren_1b.jpg
as the link - you would have this result:
http://www.geocities.com/covenant_reefer/geboren_1b.jpg

You have to link directly to the www.YOURSITE.COM/YOUR_FILE.jpg or .gif or whatever image format you are using, as this IMG tag imports the IMAGE from the refered location. By entering the www.YOURSITE.COM/YOUR_IMAGE.html - you're trying to show a HTML page as an Image - which it isn't.

Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for the replies on how to post pics - I did it wrong BUT my pic doesn't appear because it's in geocities, even when it's done correctly. So here's the pic:

Looks exactly like one of my Green Chromis, but with a yellow tail.

In certainly not an expert, but I would say it is some species of Damsel.

I haven't seen a green one with a yellow tail before though.

Hey, thanks for the response. Yes, it is a type of damsel. I posted on RC as well, and I'm pretty sure it's a Red Sea Demoiselle (Neopomacentrus xanthurus), or maybe a Yellow-tail Demoiselle (Neopomacentrus azysron). Like percs vs ocellaris, they're too hard to tell apart without counting fin rays or teeth, or knowing exactly where they came from. Nice to know what this little fish is, and what to expect from it size- and diet-wise (although he's survived nearly a year in my tank without me knowing).
