Several weeks ago I got a new zoo colony from my LFS. It had two types of Zoos on it. Within 5-6 days I lost 1 of those completely and two others in my tank. 3 Zoo colonies gone in less than a week. Nothing else was affected. I have Clams, Frogspawn, Hammer, some SPS, mushrooms. blue sponge etc. Nothing else was affected. Are there diseases that affect just Zoos? Why some and not others? Water quality was not an issue. Zoos are usually quite hardy compared to the clams, LPS and SPS that are in there. Any ideas? As I said this was several weeks ago and nothing has been affected since.

I found this website when I was searching for information about zoos. Look about half way down the page for "When Zoanthids Go Bad". I hope this helps.

No, the colonies that went were all quite some distance from the Hammer. After reading that article, I have to assume that the new colony that I bought carried this disease and it spread to the other colonies. It is really weird that the one rock lost one species, but the second made it. Must be a stronger species.

Weird.. I got two Zoo's from Canadian Reef and while one is open and super happy the other once which was initially FINE is now closed up. I tried moving him to two other locations to see if he'll open back up but nothing. I guess I'll just wait him out..

Look very closely at your zoo's - there's a type of nudibranch that loves eating zoo's. Very small, frilly and typically light brown/beige in colour. It's a common enough pest actually and can be controlled with manual removal (tweezers work well).

Hmmm. I don't appear to see any Nudi's around. Wouldn't they attack the other Zoo I have right beside the close one which is open and happy?
