Hello all,

Well, I have a 47 gallon column tank I am ready to turn into a seahorse tank. It is 30" tall, 19" width and depth. I have done some research, but am always looking for more info. I searched this forum and looked for info on setting up a seahorse tank, but didn't really see anything. If I've missed some threads, please point me in that direction and I'll do my best to not ask questions that have already been answered.

If you can recommend some good sites, I would appreciate it. I've found some on my own, but am always looking for others input. I want to do this right and I have patience, not to worry I won't rush it.

At this time, I have no special equipment for this 47, it's being converted over from freshwater. I want to do this right and am looking for some help in pointing me in the right direction.

Thank you all in advance.

Hi, I'm not trying to discourage you, but if this will be your first marine tank, I really would urge you not to house seahorses until you have successfully mastered the basics of marine fish care on some more normal fish (clowns, gobies, shrimp, etc can really make an interesting column tank like the one you have)

Beyond that, there should be several threads in the seahorse sub forum here (they mught be a few years old, but they are still relevant) but really, read all the just getting started posts first.

Feel free to ask more questions,

Mark

Diffidently not your starter aquarium.

Hi Charity :D Taking a plunge to AP eh? Welcome!

Seahorses aren't that difficult to keep if you make sure their needs (especially in the diet) are met.

You don't need special lights for seahorses but filtration would needs to be addressed.

Water quality is key. Invest in some equipment. I'd recommend a protein skimmer. It's the most important part of the filtration because seahorses are messy comes to eating.

Give me a shout if you ever come by Mississauga and you can drop by my place and take a look.
