So looking to see what is the best way to setup the camera for printing.

Looking to print mostly 3x5's and maybe some 8x10's

its a 4 MegaPixel camera and i have settings on it for shoting and and the size options are

640x480 , 1280x960 , 1600 x 1200 , 2240x1680 , 2304x1712

Just wondering what would be best for shoting for prints ?

It depends on what kind of printer you are gunna print on. The general rule of thumb is 2 times the linescreen of the printer... Uness you are converting the file onto real film, in whichcase you want as much resolution as you can get.

In general though for a personal printer 200DPI is ok, which for 3 x 5's would be closest to your 960 x 1280. You wont see much difference at all if you go much higher than that. BUT if you shoot at higher rez, you can zoom in more on the parts you want.

If you want to print them on a real press, they might look a tad better at 300 DPI, assuming the paper is glossy. In that case take the pics at one step bigger
For 8 x 10's You want 2240 x 1680 or so.

Sorry..

Yea, I mean for real film development! .. i was thinking for family functions and such.. to take them in to like Blacks and have them developed! ..

So i should just shot at 2304x1712 incase i decided to print them :)

Use the best settings you can. The bigger the resolution you will use the better printouts you will get.

Personally I would avoid Black's since they are pretty expensive. Try on-line Wallmart (http://www.walmartphotocentre.ca). From my experience I can tell you that they have much better quality than the Japan Camera does (that's for digital only!).

agreed - for film-store printouts use the highest setting I've never used them, but it would make sense if they used real photosensitive paper.

Use the highest resolution possible. Gives your more options.

Personally I use FutureShop (online) and just goto pick it up when its done. Brother has a G3 and the prints he gets from walmart aren't as crisp as my G2 images from futureshop.

Everonce in a while they have a promotion 5 free prints or something like that. Give it a shot.. its free :)
