I have a freshwater tank with sunfish from Parry sound that I caught as fry over a year ago.

They killed a minnow but didn't eat it so I threw it in my salt water, it was picked clean to the bone in 40 mins. What a clean up crew, lol. Every thing in my tank rushed it, and the sixline just watched.

Why would you throw a fresh water minnow into a salt water aquarium?

Also isn't it illegal to keep native fish?

For all you NEWBIE reefers ... NEVER EVER feed Freshwater meaty food to your Saltwater inhabitants .. be it Corals or Fish regardless.
You're gonna end up killing them .... feed them their specific type of Foods from where they originated from ... Saltwater for Saltwater inhabitants ... Freshwater food for Freshwater inhabitants!!

Paul

Interesting... I didn't know that. I don't have freshwater but maybe you can explain why it will kill them...

Interesting the way the cleanup crew flocked to the carcass....

Speaking of which - I need more snails.

It may take a while to kill them but they will not be getting everything they need nutritionally. There are amino acids present in marine fish that are not in fw fish. There's nothing that will outright kill them but over time.....

As per the Ontario MNR Regulations. (http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/pubs/fishing/2008%20Fishing%20Regulations%20Summary/Fishing_Regs_FAQs_revised.pdf)

It is illegal to transport live fish, other than baitfish, taken from
Ontario waters or to transfer or stock any fish into Ontario’s waters
without a special licence to transport or stock fish.

Transfer live fish or live spawn from one body of water to another
without the authorization of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

EDIT: Just to throw in here's the baitfish (http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/fishing/baitfish.html) list from the MNR as well if anyone was curious.

Nothing is going to happen if I feed a minnow to my inverts once, you guys are too much, lol.

As far as the sunfish, there are so many of them in this lake I don't feel bad about it, I raised them since fry. I've always had my fishing license and supported the MNR, I practice catch and release when I fish. They are beautiful fish and I don't care. That law is so people don't take fish from one lake to another, Like they did with the freshwater goby that now infest most lakes.

calm down people! your too stressed. ;) Let me guess, the pandas in my backyard are illegal too. and I better put this joint down. :evil-laugh:
