Never to early to start planning.(just not at my house). Who's got the guts to put this one on. You may need to reinforce your floor joists with the turnouts we've been having.

:dance::dance::dance: Even my wife is excited about this one as we are in embro every weekend anyhow!!!! not that she will be at the meeting. but i prob wont be on such a tight schedual time wise. darryl and Glen, we prob wont need to car pool for this one but if yous really want to we can work something out, haha, oh and for those that will be taking hwy 2 and county road 6 to get to embro you will all get a nice look at my work:D do a search and find the "where do you work" thread and there is a pic of it there. when you cross the train tracks on county road 6 look west for a great view, haha, but dont breathe deeply and shut the air vents in the car if the wind is blowing over towards the road ;). hmmm whats on my whats list this time? anyone have any blastos? maybe an acan?

I would prefer an earlier weekend in the month. Unfortunately I can't make that weekend as we are finally moving on the 31st. If possible an ealier weekend. I was planning on bringing a couple corals to do a fragging workshop and let members take home coral frags.

I would also lean toward an earlier date like the 24th weekend as opposed to the 31st due to work and the 17th being Victoria Day weekend.

Is anyone going to be bringing a coral to frag up in a demo (and others have interest in getting) ? A softie demo with some spider twine may be an idea, get a coral and see a different product in action. Just an idea anyways...
I hope to make it, and get to stay for a bit this time. I won't know until closer to the date though. I hope we have another great turnout, the club is getting quite big now. :hurray:

Growing brine shrimp is easier and much faster than growing ghost shrimp.
Ghost shrimp are like mysid shrimp, cannibalistic and slow growing. You have to separate (what a chore) the shrimp by size to keep the larger ones from eating the smaller ones, usually by week of growth. They take 3-4 months to reach adult size. There is a salt water version of the ghost shrimp available from Live Brine Shrimp, called Palaemontes Vulgaris but they too have the same characteristics.
While they do grow larger than Brine shrimp, brine shrimp reach harvestable size sooner, are not cannibalistic and are much much slower moving for fish to catch.
By growing greenwater for brine shrimp food, and using Crystal Plus water softener salt and epsom salts for making salt water, it can be very economical growing the brine shrimp.
MY RAISING ADULT BRINE SHRIMP PAGE (http:.//www.angelfire.com/ab/rayjay/brineshrimp.html)
For those than don't wish to grow adults, I can bring brine with me to the meeting along with my frags.

Welcome Shayneh. The MACL is growing by leaps and bounds. It's always good to have another one of us from WEOL. (Way east of Adelaide)
The only concern I have is that you may be riding with that other Shane. Not sure that's a good idea. Perhaps I should drive in from Thamesford and pick you up for the next meeting. I wouldn't want you hanging around with the wrong kind of people.:bwink:

Well,
Seeing as the meeting is only 2 weeks away, I might as well post my frag wish-list.
Right now I am looking for frags of (in order of most-wanted first):
- orange zoos
- other coloured zoos
- green monti cap
- blue/purple monti cap
- Any cool mushrooms (neat colours, patterns, frilly, etc.)
- Other easy to care for sps or lps (ie monti digitata, hammer coral, acans, etc.)
I also have about a 2" piece of green star polyps if anyone is interested in them. They aren't attached to anything, which would make them a good candidate for gluing to your back wall/overflow.
Also, if you need some chaeto, I could prune some off for ya.
Lemme know,

I find if I set my camera to the "cloudy day" setting it works semi-decent. I also use the windows picture editor to do an auto-adjustment of the colours. I find it helps make the picture look more like the real thing.
If all else fails you could try and find a pic from a vendor selling the same thing.

Hey Rick... Why not just go buy a Canon G7 lol. It has a preset aquarium mode that allows you to take macros of all the stuff in your aquarium without the hassle :) And honestly, what's 700 bucks when you're trying to see some 15 dollar frags lol! I'd say it's a no brainer. Head on over to Henry's tomorrow! :hurray:
OK are you serious about this camera. i am in the market so to speak.
Read on my friend. (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0609/06091405_canon_g7.asp#specs)
These are the default scene settings. Sweet little toy. Might get it for Lisa's next point and shoot.
• Portrait
• Landscape
• Night Scene
• Sports
• Night Snapshot
• Kids & Pets
• Indoor
• Foliage
• Snow
• Beach
• Fireworks
• Aquarium
• Underwater
LOL My camera has the same list of settings but I'm still having trouble getting a good picture. I picked up a training video for my camera so hopefully I will figure out what I'm doing wrong. The reason I chose this camera was for the macro it had the ability to get closer than the other cameras in its price range at the time. I have the
Canon A630 8 Mega Pixels it is a great camera its me that is the problem

I have the G7 and I've managed to take some pretty excellent pictures with it. It has anti-shake too for those of us that get fumbly or aren't the stillest of the bunch. It does crazy stuff too like taking all the color our except for whatever color you choose. So say you chose "green"...it'll take the picture in black and white, yet leave everything in the photo that was green, green. It has about everything you'd want covered. I've always used G series cameras by Canon. When we switched to digital cameras, I wanted a camera made by an actual long standing camera company rather than a number of other brands out there. Aquarium mode and the macro setting combined make for good in aquarium photos imho... Check it out if you're in the market.

I need a stalk of Xenia if anyone has some more to spare - daycare killed that nice collection they had going (long story) and most of the LPS, so any hammers/frogspawn would be wanted too.

So, are we gonna have name tags this time?
I could probably pick some up if need be, as I live right near a Staples. Whoever is planning stuff, lemme know if you want some help with this.

I agree I think name tags are a good idea. I find it hard to remember every ones name when you are meeting a large number of people at one shot. :bfish:

Hey now here's a low percentage probability...though worth a shot. Does anyone have any Cyphastrea or Ehinopora they want to sell a frag of? I'm burning up the trails looking for some a little closer than Toronto! Also still interested in any riccordia that might make it to the meeting ;)

I have a bunch of Colt Coral frags that are ready. I had to chop my large leather up since it bent over, got creased and could no longer stand :( Anyway these have been in the frag tank for a bit now, have attached to disks and are anywhere between 4 and 6 inches when extended. They're a nice size that won't dominate your tank right away, and yet grow quickly enough that it won't take long to get to a large size if that's what you're after.
Let me know if you want one and I'll bring them to the meeting on Saturday...

Looks like I am going to be calling in sick to work so I can finally make it out to this one (just hope no one at the meeting knows any of my bosses).
The only problem is I told my girlfriend I would give her the car so she can visit her folks.
Is there anyone in the Whitehills/Hydepark area I am able to hitch a ride with?

Young coral is all I've ever seen it sold as. I've never been able to find anything on the internet to tell me a proper name, even posting a pic on RC failed to come up with info.
It's a brown polyped leathery softy that can grow on anything.

Regrettably I won't be in attendance today. Couple things have come up that I need to get looked after before Monday and today is really the only chance I have to look after them.
If anyone wants to take a camera with them, snap some pics and send em my way it would be most appreciated as I was planning on incorporating meeting pictures into the MACL website after today. If someone can do so and let me know it would be most appreciated.
Andrew.

Welcome to all of our new members! Forgot to ask Matt and Renee how old little Miss B was, as it appears she would be our youngest member, although she looked a little bored with all the goings on! Maybe she'll warm up to us with time. :hysterica Darragh I knew I remembered you from somewhere, I remembered on the way home, it was BAs a while back. Remember to go to User CP and 'Group Memberships' to have MACL's logo added to your profile.
It was great seeing all the old guys as usual too!! :wow:One of these days everyone will make it to the meeting and are we going to have a house full!!!
One other thing I didn't get to ask everyone is to visit AP Reviews (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/reviews/index.php) and add reviews for any equipment you have, whether you like it or it is a POS. We have added a LOT of equipment so hopefully everything is there. If not PM me or you can upload it your self. It is quite easy once you do it a time or two. This should help both newbs and people wanting to upgrade.
Thanks guys and we'll see all of you and hopefully some of the others at the July BBQ!!! :bravo:

Whooops! Knew there was something we forgot.
Like to add my thanks Mariano, to all the others, and it's great to see relatively new tanks looking so good in just a short time. (Well, relative to how old mine are at least)
Mine never looked that good until many years later.
Don't forget that I get the lion when you tire of him in a month or so. I'm ramping up my brine shrimp production to feed him.

The brownies were definately AWESOME .. And your tanks are amazing Mariano!! Aaron really missed out.. I say for the BBQ we get Kimmy and Jake to work and we both go!
Thanks also to Gary yet again for some wonderful little additions to my tank.. the pagoda frag is quite content and the little frogspawn is smiling too although I think I may have forced my goby to find a new dugout now that the frogspawn is living there.... meh there are other holes in rocks I'm sure the goby will cope. ;) He's got a new coral to sit under now.
