Does anyone know if you can get southdown sand anywhere around London? Or if there's a suitable alternative that any of you are using...? I don't mind shelling out the full price on Caribsea...but with so many people having excellent success with far cheaper alternatives, I thought it was at least worth asking about before I go and place a sand order for 200 bucks... Thanks for your input and insight!

Unfortunately you won't find southdown virtually anywhere anymore. There was a time where we in London could get a similar product from the Rona on Clarke side road, they mistakenly ordered a whole skid of it, but I checked a few months ago and it was all gone.

In my opinion, if you were going for a deep sand bed, then I would mix in regular play sand (yes it is silica based, but there has been studies to show that has minimal negative effects) with the caribsea (or just put the playsand on the bottom covered with a few inches of caribsea)

Just my opinion,

Mark
