50G up and running

Okay,...here I am. Sand is in, water is in. I put it all together yesterday, and of course it was cloudy as hell. I turned everything on, and now it's still cloudy,...but i can see through the tank.

Now what? What would happen if i just went and bought ONE piece of live rock? Would that help the cycle, or just kill the rock and nothing more? I think I am going to order a box online, but i'm anxious to throw something in right away!!!

You're in Burlington which is just a stone's throw away from Oakville Reef Gallery. Take advantage of the 15% discount for AP members (see home page), pop over and grab some live rock from Flavio and Tom and chuck it into the tank.. If they've got recently arrived, uncured rock, that will work further to establish your tank..

The rock will do your tank good. Don't worry about it.

BUT



but i'm anxious to throw something in right away!!!

Slow down...its all about patience.

Better to wait it out and have a happy healthy tank then to rush into many many problems.

Alright,...patience,...got it. ;)

So now I keep an eye on my levels, and after they have spiked, and dropped back down, then i can start adding livestock, right?
Hopefully 4 weeks or so, i think.

You should probably get a little more live rock in the tank and let it cycle before adding livestock. 13lbs for 50 gallons seems a little low.
